Deposits vary by dealer and there is no governing rule on how they charge a deposit. It's their security that you are a committed buyer. In my opinion, now a days a deposit isn't necessary, because there is such a limited stock available of all new vehicles across the board that everything will be and is being sold by all dealers with no problem and again only because there is such a limited supply of new vehicles. Usually a deposit is between $500 and $2,000, but it's the dealer that makes that decision and it can be for any amount they request. When I started searching dealers for my current order, I had some dealers that only wanted $500 and others that wanted $1,000, but about 2-3 years ago when I first looked into buying custom, some dealers wanted $2,500. That said others have been able to do this without any deposit at all. Again it's all up to the dealer. Also, if you have to put down a deposit, try to work with a dealer that will make that deposit fully refundable and get it in writing. I put down $1,000 on my order. On my sales order receipt with the dealer, he put fully refundable [until order is accepted by Chevy to be built]. At that point he is getting that vehicle regardless and the deposit becomes non-refundable as the order was built to my specs. I hope that makes sense and helps you in your journey. Good Luck!

Thanks for the quick reply! Appreciate a ballpark figure, totally understandable.

I see many have been waiting for quite some time. We'll see how it goes! I'm not looking for the 1LE, so maybe there's a chance it gets built eventually.

I was looking at the C8, but ultimately enjoy the more open cabin on the Camaro especially with a passenger in mind as well. ZL1 from my SS before the platform rides off into the sunset will be my big move for the next 5-6 years. I actually think it's a car I'd just keep for the long haul as well. It will certainly also be a much more unique ride than a C8 which I'm already seeing quite often on the highway.

Cheers!

Is it possible to order a new ZL1 at MSRP? I'm in the Bay Area and so far the dealerships that I have been to wont even talk to me when I say I want to order one and pay the MSRP.

ABSOLUTELY!......finding that dealer may be a challenge.....and many are reporting that dealers are NOT selling to out of state customers......I was fortunate to find an out of state dealer that sold to me plus $750 under MSRP My '22 was ordered in October.....car built December.....I was in the right place at the right time......would hate to think of looking to buy in these crazier times......good luck in your search!

Hello there! I’m also from the Bay Area, and I personally ended up purchasing from Britain Chevrolet in Greenville, TX for similar reasons. GearheadSS (a member on this site who often provides valuable info!) works at that dealer.

I highly recommend them, communications and process went as smooth as it could have, given shortages and pandemic . In my case, I had to wait about 7 months for an allocation (crazy constraints!) and GM accepting the order, and another 3 months or so for it being built and delivery to the dealer.

But due to current conditions, that time can vary wildly, and that will likely be true with ordering at any dealership.

I personally decided to drive the car back home, but some people elect to have it shipped from the dealership.

Good luck!

Geoff

I put my deposit down on 2/14/22 and as of 4/18/22 I was at 3000 status. I'm not quite sure how long it's going to take. I am trying to get my order number from my sales rep at the moment but he still hasn't gotten back. I'm gonna guess another 4-6 weeks? This estimate has no bearing really I'm just guessing at this point.

I just saw on the online configurator, they are refunding $50 from MSRP for no heated seats as a non-adjustable "option". Heated seats can be configured at a later time at your dealership. Not good!

That option was not forced on my 2023 order.

Ordered mine in October and it hasn’t started production. If I had to guesstimate I’d say total time from ordering to actually taking delivery will be close to 10 months.

I believe the Wave has Hit the Beach for the ZL1.
Impact colors are almost impossible to get at this point.
2022 is all but done. 2023 order banks are scheduled to open but when? Is anyone guess. All the gossip and BS stories.
I ordered in September 2021 a 2022 in Vivid Orange it arrived March 2022. Guys that have orders stay the coarse. But I would look on Auto Trader daily deals fall apart all the time..
