Possibly Sell...
For those that have sold or toyed with the idea of selling your Camaro and have gotten quotes; can you advise if dealer installed accessories got you more money? When I bought my showroom new 2019 SS vert in May 2020 for a ridiculously good price, I had the dealer install almost $10k of accessories (GM CAI, side skirts and front/back spoilers, hood wrap in black, various GM accessories for inside and Borla exhaust, dealer was a performance center).
I have received calls from the same dealer every week asking if I want to sell the vehicle back to them but haven't called back yet. Only have 4125 miles on the car and still a full year of bumper to bumper left. Love my car, but the new C8 Z06 has caught my attention even though at 6'5" it would be a tight fit for me. TIA |

Generally speaking accessories do not get you any extra money unless you find the exact person that wants the same mods/accessories you did. Most of the time, buyers (private or dealers) do not want cars that have been modified. Especially when the mods are none GM. (Like your Borla exhaust). In fact some mods can hurt the resale value. Just my $.02...

I would HIGHLY suggest that you find a C8 and spend at least 20 mins inside with the door closed. The camaro is much more spacious and easier to get in and out of than a C8. With your height, I just dont see any way of finding any comfort in C8 Z06. Even getting in and out of the C8 at your height will be challenging. As far as your dealer installed accessories value, they are only worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them. For example, I don't value any accessories on your camaro, but someone who shares your tastes in accessories may be willing to value and pay a premium for them.

The wait on a C8 ZO6 is about 2-3 years. Plus 30k over

Those items rarely add value, sadly. Not really an option to part it out and sell the items, since you likely don't have the stock exhaust for example.
Good luck on your Z06 pursuits, well worth the effort!!

Thank you gentleman. I sold my Harley Roadglide for a premium last summer with all my accessories but wasn't sure about the Camaro. I may reach out to the dealer and see what their offer would be since they installed every accessory on the car incl the borla exhaust. Maybe swing a deal and trade in and put my name in for the Z06 at the sametime.

I think this would apply in most cases unless your mods are deep into the engine (say, a forged bottom end), which may be unreasonable to reverse and could actually bring in some extra, although you'll hardly even be close to recovering your actual costs.

I doubt dealer installed accessories do much to the value. You have low miles on yours though so you could entertain the idea and see how much they give you for it. My LT1 has only 3100 miles on it cause I couldn't drive it as much due to medical reasons. I brought mine in for an oil change recently as I was sitting in the waiting area sales manager came up to me about it ask questions and what not eventually offered me 35k. Seeing as yours is a 2SS you might get a good price on yours too.

Yeah I would keep the Camaro. I have called 21 dealers recently about getting on their list for the Z06 most just laughed. not one would take my name for the list because they said there was no way they were ever gonna get enough cars for the ones on it now. most said if you had not already had your name to get a Z06 you weren't gonna see one for at least 3 years unless you paid up. and right now from what I have seen the mark ups are gonna be at least 50K on the secondary and used markets... how do i know... well I am on one list were I am first and I all ready have two independent dealers telling me if I drive the car straight to them from the dealer they will give me 50k over what I paid and then they are gonna flip it on top of that. I will bet you Z06 will be 175k to 200k if you didint get on the dealer lists to have one built early.
The Z06 is gonna be so expensive and hard to get the same independent dealer said every dealer that calls me for an order ( im high up on a lot of lists from the beginning) he will buy the car with his own money and then sign a contract with me to split the profits. This dealer has been buying and selling collectable cars for 30 years and his lot has 70 plus collectable cars ( most being corvettes) on it with the cheapest one being 90k and he is convinced these cars are gonna get stupid expensive real quick. long story short, if you haven't been on a list and aren't wiling to pay stupid money for a z06 I would keep the Camaro Also keep in mind Chevy typically makes about 8k or so Z06 a year. there are 2909 Chevy dealers in just the US not counting the rest of the world. That would be roughly 3 Z06 a year to each Chevy dealer if they only sold them in the US and considering most dealers have wait lists 300 plus deep.... its gonna be many many years till you can just get one. The Big Chevy dealer near me told me they had 45 corporate clients they were getting thiers first before the public even saw the first one from them. I think the Z06 for most people is gonna be unobtanium Last edited by KaMaRow; 04-21-2022 at 10:52 AM. |

. Regardless if you find the buyer that wants all the mods to your bike or car you already did, you'll get a good chunk of your cash back.

Wait is correct however 30k is not. My dealer was willing to sell it for msrp. I was originally going for a C8 Z51 2lt or a C8 ZO6 cash only and decided not to wait, used half of the money for down payment for a 22 2ss1le manual and half invested. It all depends on the dealer, however i am still trying to wrap my head around $10,000 in accessories. I don’t think there is a way to get that money back. You can have a supercharger installed for that money, remove it back to stock, and sell back the charger to make up for the money spend. Accessories, will be a tough one to get money out off.

As others have mentioned, the modifications won't really help with resale as everyone will have different tastes and aspirations for their mods.
One consideration to make is what is your plan B if you can't get a Z06? What if you sell your car, the Z06 wait is either too long or the markup is too high, and you are without your Camaro? Will you want to try to place your order for a MY23 or MY24 if '24 is the last year for the Camaro? What would you do if you sold the Camaro, and the wait/markup is too long/high? I'd personally ask your dealership to put an order for a Camaro AND a Z06 and tell them that you will make your decision closer to when either car can be delivered. You have to figure that by the time the Camaro is close to being delivered, you'll have a more realistic timeframe for the Z06. Or, instead of a Camaro, order a base Corvette. A contingency plan is your best bet right now in these uncertain times. |
