I believe GM recommends each year.

I got in a tussle with my Buick dealer as I had bought a demo. Had 5,000 miles on it but basically sat for a year. I was able to get them to change the oil based on the GM recommendation. They kept claiming they changed it soni5 didn’t matter.

I bought a new 2020 Cadillac CT5 in July of 2021. Was a new car on the lot that was unsold inventory, and i got a ridiculous deal on it.

As part of the Caddy maintenance program, the first 2 changes were free. I tried to get the first oil change done on it a few months back when it had about 2,000kms (approx. 1,400 miles), just because the car sat and the oil was "old".

The dealer told me that they would not do it for free until it was down to at least 19% life left in the oil life "meter". They told me that the age was not important with synthetic, but rather the usage.

Changed it myself anyways, and i'll use the free ones at some other time.

When i bought my 2020 ZL1, used, it just had the complementary change done at the local dealership, and they placed one of the removable reminder decals on the inside of the windshield. It was dated for 8 months out and 2,000kms. I think it was just the stealership trying to get me do do a change sooner than needed - more revenue.

Thoughts?

Thanks
Check out the Track Preparation Guide (High Performance Owner's Manual Supplement) before your track day along with your regular manual to make sure you have all of the required prep completed. Using 5W-30 oil on track is putting your engine at risk and voiding its warranty! "0W-40 or 5W-40 that meets the dexos2TM specification. If this oil is not available, you can use Valvoline® SynPowerTM MST 5W-40 or Mobil 1® 15-W-50 engine oil)". The regular manual says you need to drain 15W-50 oil after each track day to switch back to 0W or 5W so that is definitely not ideal. The oil life monitor will go to 0% after 1 year if you don't drive enough mileage to make it reach 0% sooner.

Here is a used oil analysis with 4k miles including 7 track days and 7 autocross days and the company advised him that he could go longer between oil changes: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showt...5#post10903285

I change my oil most often based on time rather than mileage. Changing the oil and oil filter is really a pretty easy and quick process that I do myself. The main thing is to choose the right quality oil for your vehicle. For my F-150 I choose 5W-30 oil for 3.5 Ecoboost engine. And the engine runs like clockwork.

I go by the OLM on my 2017 Corvette Grand Sport, and after doing 500 and 1,500 miles oil and filter changes on my 2022 ZL1, will do likewise. Always annual changes for certain.

Did the ZL1 diff ay 1,500 also. Had some buildup on the drain plug and was pretty "silvery".

I always change the oil shortly before winter storage. Lately, that has been the only oil change I need, since road trips have been impractical during the pandemic.

If you are tracking the car, you need to start out with fresh oil.

I change mine when it comes out of storage. I figure that gives me an opportunity to also dump any moisture that may have accumulated while it was sitting there...

Here's a question, should you change the oil at the 500 mile mark for a 2022 2ss?
It's not a 1le it's not a ZL1 and I will not be taking it to the track. I am someone who likes to drive hard and fast though.
I have been reading these forums for the past 10 months while waiting for my Camaro to be built and delivered. Everything I've read indicates doing the oil change at the first 500 miles. I took it to a Chevy dealership this morning to get it done since I have the freebie. They refused to do the change stating there is nowhere in the manual that says it has to be done and that GM would not reemburse them. So,... Im interested in what you all think. Change or not?

I will never track mine and I follow the break-in from the High Performance Supplement (that's where the 500/1500 oil changes come from along with 1500 diff fluid).

The question is: why WOULDN'T you do this? The oil contains no special break-in additives from the factory, so it doesn't need to remain in the engine for a minimum amount of time.

I have a 2020 2SS, I changed my oil (& filter) & differential fluid at 500 miles as well as at 1,500 miles, then I changed the oil (& filter) again at 4,000 miles and the oil (& filter) & differential at 6,000 miles...

I will change the oil (& filter) every 3,000 miles or approximately 11 months (or when the Oil Life Monitor gets to 10%), whichever comes first... I plan to change my Differential fluid every other oil change...

I do all my maintenance myself.

I use Mobil1 0W-40 ESP Formula (Dexos2), ACDelco PF64 filter and ACDelco 10-4034 (88862624) DEXRON LS Gear Oil SAE 75W-90 GL-5 Differential fluid...

Fluids are cheap, engines are not... When in doubt, change it out...

Moisture boils off as soon as you get the oil up to temperature. The point of changing BEFORE storage is to get rid of acidic (therefore corrosive) impurities.

Second this. I always do that with the Olds 455 in my boat. The car is year round.

5-30 is for in-between track days. So when I asked this question I was referring to the time in-between now and my event. Not the event itself. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

0-40 goes in the night before a track event. Then it's good for 40 hour WOT use or until I get home and change it back. I do usually read the HPOMS every year in the spring as a way to dust off winter cobwebs in my brain. Time to break it out again:-) Haven't ever changed the brake fluid. Might be something I do this year.

It doesn't go to 0 after a year. I'm at 29% and it's been since 11/2020 when the oil was changed. Battery stays on a tender all winter.
