Have a Spare tire. Where is jack placement on the car?

I just purchased a Modern Spare tire for my 21 Camaro SS. Can anyone tell me where to place the jack for jacking up the car? I am ready to go on a trip and I need to practice putting the modern spare tire on the car. I need to know how to jack the car up properly. Could not find anything in the owners manual. Pictures on where to place the jack would be appreciated. Thanks a lot

Here you go. The car has 4 official lift/jack points, and you should use the pinch weld as indicated in the picture to jack up the car from, NOT the seemingly obvious locations with round holes in a flat part of the subframe (as far as I know, those are only meant to support the empty unibody in the factory and will not be able to support the entire assembled car).

I think the additional two points in the front where you see the extra notches in the rocker panel are also safe to use.

Note that the unibody is so stiff that jacking either the front or the rear will cause that entire side to go up in the air.

Also, get a pinch weld adapter so you dont crush or deform the pinch weld by jacking only one point.

Sometimes the pinch welds dont take kindly to being used one at a time. They are mainly meant to be used by a 4 point lift. Ive always used 2 jacks in tandem to do at least both front points or both back points at the same time. I know this isnt practical on the side of the road. Just be aware using only one lift point, especially on uneven ground can permanently damage the pinch weld. A pinch weld adapter will lessen the risk if it does become necessary to lift it.

I got mine from zl1addons. I got the 4 piece permanent style, but they offer single jackpads too.

Apart from a major blowout, most flats can be cured by keeping a tar-string patch kit and battery powered air compressor. You prob wont be able to use a spare on the back because unevenly sized (diameter) tires will burn up the diff if its a posi. Most camaros have different sizes front to back so you cant swap front to back either.

Also you don't need to get a pinch weld adapter either.

You can access the frame itself without touching the pinch welds I believe.

Better to probably use one, but I believe you do not have to.

When I would swap my summer and all-season tires I'd jack from the second position from the front. The car is so rigid both front and rear wheels will elevate.

The modern spare wheel works great. It got me back on the road when I blew a sidewall out in the middle of nowhere. I wasn't impressed with the scissor jack it came with. I carry a small floor jack in my trunk instead along with a full-size 4way.

Timely post! I just switched to non RoF's and also want a jack and fix-it-kit so I'm not stranded if a long way from roadside service help. I've been scouring the threads and came across this:

https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...8&postcount=15

I went looking for one of these jacks at 2 salvage yards with no luck. Seems every trunk that's accessible has had the jack, well, jacked! There were a couple cars with locked trunks but no way to get inside. I ended up buying a used jack/handle on eBay for $64 shipped. This jack came on Cobalts, G5's, HHR's, and Aura's.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/36332502837....c100667.m2042

Google the part number below and you'll get hits on eBay as well as the online GM parts sellers.

Note you will need the handle to operate the jack, which is a 19mm hex drive. The Camaro has a 22mm lug nut, so I am also ordering the same lug wrench I have with my XT5, which is 22mm, and a foldable style similar to the one that comes with this jack. My 4-way didn't fit for crap on my SS lugs (loose fit will tear up the lug hexes) so I tried my XT5 lug wrench and it fit nice and snug and will not chew up the lug nuts. It also gives good leverage and its handle is thicker than a regular 4-way, making it easier on your hands. Plus it's smaller than a 4-way and lighter.

GM Parts numbers are:
22731687, jack (don't have the part # for the 19mm handle but if you buy on eBay you can find it included, or if you have any luck at a salvage yard grab it along with the jack)
22787726, 22mm Cadillac lug wrench (the GM parts places online show a picture of a "bar" type wrench, but this part # is the foldable style and is stamped right on mine out of my XT5. Also available at a salvage yard if you're going that route...I think they came in XT5's, Acadias, or any of the larger SUVs.

Now I'm looking for a good 12v compressor and a plug kit to round out my total kit! I'll probably never use these things, but I like the saying: "Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it"!
