Wheel specs for 2SS
Hi folks. I have a 2016 2SS. I would like to get a set of summer wheels and tires so I can hibernate my stock wheels with Cooper AS tires for next winter. I would like to widen them up, at least the rears. What do I need in terms of offsets, width, etc? What are some sticky tires so the AWD cars don't beat me off the line?

Camaro SS 1LE size:
Front: 20 x10 ET 23 Rear: 20 x11 ET 40 You can increase rear offset to fit a 315+ back there but will kick up a lot of road debris. |

I sprang for a set of 20x10 ET 23 to run 285s all around with Firestone Indy 500s. Should be a nice enough traction upgrade for the LT1.

Ultimate traction would be a drag radial of sorts. 28x10.5 on whatever size beadlocks, 305 Toyo 888r or M/T street or street r. You’ll want something wider than a 285mm width back there if you looking to put down stock power reliably. Not sure why you would want 285s at all corners other than a slight cost savings.

Edit: also, I am not OP and am coming from the LT1 setup of 20x8.5 with 245 A/S all around.

They will get a little greasy if you do any track days, but a little slip is where the fun is.

This is the "easy button" solution, as it's a very well proven fitment and there are plenty of wheel sets available in this size. There are also good tire choices in the correct sizes (285/30/20 front and 305/30/20 rear).
IMO, the only two tires you should consider for street driving are the Continental ExtremeContact Sport and the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. These are very sticky on dry pavement, they are good down to at least freezing (realistically down to more like 20F), and they are the two best rain tires for the street bar none (yes, better than any all-season). You can even autocross and track on them safely, although they won't get you competitive times with competition-focused tires unless it's raining (but those competition tires are highly compromised for regular street use). They are perfect for your "three-season" performance driving needs, and then you can use your all-seasons when snow/ice might come around.

20x11 ET43 (not 40) ![]() I have the exact same offsets on my 2020 (No rubbing or harness relocation required if you stick with 305/30 (if you go aspect ratio 35 you will need to relocate the harness - As well as if you use 315's) ![]() Quote:
IF you are looking for a semi street/strip tires, probably something in the 180-220 Tread Wear Range. I use 305/30R20 Eagle F1 SC3's myself on the rear, and 275/30R20 Advan V105's on the front. (275 seems a little small on the 20x10 fronts, might switch to 285's but that option is available)

I did notice that myself, last time I checked that site it did say 32psi not 35 for the 305's.
I would stick with 32 PSI and ignore that 35 for the 305 tires. Once the tires warm up they will increase to 35-36 psi, but cold pressure I would stick to 32 for normal driving. I know some people who drag their cars will even drop it down to 28psi. (probably not advisable for street use due to canyons all over the road.)

Msquared, I like easy buttons that solve the desired problem. Those tire sizes are the 1LE options for 2017. What are the offsets I would need for the wheels? |

I am not drag or track driving, other than when an occasional 4 or 6 banger AWD wants to challenge me. We have 140 roundabouts in our town so I am looking for a good option for cornering and street dragging. Sounds like your "semi street/strip" recommendations is what I am looking for. BTW: Love the silver with the black wheels, that was my runner up choice. Thanks for your input! |
