I'd consider it a muscle car that has evolved into a sports car. And also, I'd like to thank the fine people at Holden that brought us the Zeta platform, which helped blur the lines between muscle car and sports car.

I agree that the modern automotive landscape doesn't really support discreet classifications anymore. I think Muscle, Pony, Sports, Sporty are all acceptable in the right discussion and with the right comparisons whether it be to contemporary vehicles or vehicles of the past. Context becomes important.
For me, I think I'd generally gravitate to Sports or Sporty, because it doesn't fit my paradigm for Muscle or Pony. But I like "GT" Smokin19 mentioned with the definition provided. It seems to cover all bases nicely. |

I have owned a Chevelle with a 454 450hp and a 280Z with 175 hp.
One a muscle car the other a sports car. The ZL1 beats the heck out of both of them in every category. This car is a freaking beast on the street and the track. The car is the culmination of 120 years on automotive engineering, out in a package the everyday man can afford. To answer your question.....common mans Supercar! |

I'm just glad there are Camaro's, Mustangs, and Challengers... We probably are the last group of original owners for cars like this...

I heard Dodge intends to abandon the Hellcat for the Hydra which will be a 800 HP hydrogen powered car using combustion. I do wish we could see more innovation in Hydrogen instead of just forcing everyone into EV’s. I would totally buy a V8 hydrogen powered 7th Gen Camaro.

My SS 1LE is a sports car with a muscle car engine.....no, wait, it's a muscle car with a sports car chassis....no, it's a supercar less the supercharger.
It is a beast. |

Modern muscle car
They have redefined what a muscle car can be (it can now turn). And I don't like calling it a pony car. |

Agreed, if you want a pony go see the blue oval.

I'd agree that it's closer to a GT car than either sports car or muscle car. I still identify a sports car as a 2 door 2 seat car that prioritizes driver engagement over any thing else. To me, in terms of modern cars, a Miata is text book definition of a sports car.

I don't think about this AT ALL.
But when a car has more displacement than most trucks on the road, it's fair to say it has some muscle. Without all the flab of big pickups. |
