What determines default seat heat/cool setting?

Every time we get in the car, the seats are in a mode that is different than whatever mode/setting we had set when we got of the car. Where is the default set?

TIA

In previous years this was linked to remote start and only applies to automatic transmission vehicles. There is a setting in infotainment under remote start i believe.
The indicator lights do not come on. The level of heating is related to ambient temp.
You may have more advanced options in a 2022

I rented a Fusion recently that based it on the ambient temperature. It was nice to get in the car in the snow with the heated steering/wheel seats already warmed.

I'd imagine Chevy does similar since Ford and Chevy are the same company.

It is based on ambient temp in my '22. If it's cold, the heated seats come on. When it's warm/hot, the cooled seats automatically come on. It also varies if they come on at full, medium, or low setting. Maybe something in the settings, I haven't looked as it's usually pretty close to what I want.

ETA: since I have a manual, remote start is not involved at all.
Another ETA: BlueStreak - it looks like we have very similar cars. Different rims and looks like you may have red seatbelts?

I'd say this, but ambient temperature in comparison to what you have the interior temperature set to. I don't really care for the algorithm that they use because it could be 68 in my garage, and my temp set to 73, but the weather outside at 80. The seat heater and the heater will come on and stay on for a few minutes while I drive in the 80 degree temps. I'd be perfectly ok with them staying off until I actively turn them on, although I don't really like the placement of the buttons as I can't really see them with the steering wheel in the way.

Same. But mine are turning on way too quickly/at too high temp for it to be comfortable. Like getting out of my 60F garage - turns on on the lowest setting heating

What's crazy is, it'll have the left seat on Cool 3, and the right seat on Heat 2, or something like that. I wonder if it's looking at the individual HVAC settings to make a guess on what's needed...

You can turn the auto cooled/heated seats on or off in settings/apps/climate. It doesn’t change the algorithm, just whether you want automatic function or not.

They are very close! I ordered this one as an autotragic because sometimes my wife needs to drive me home . But ours has MRC, NPP, strut tower brace, etc. About the only thing I didn't get was any of the body kits.

Ours has white stripes, the ceramic white interior inserts, and the sueded knee pads. I did get the red seatbelts, and with the top down, they really look great with the red SS badges - 'Murica

Good to know. I tried to spend a little time with the settings the other day, but they're so un-intuitive that by the time I've found a setting that I want to tweak, I've already either drained the battery, or run through 1/4 tank of gas.

^^^ this, it's an old GM feature that is based on temperature.

The heated/cooled button indicator LEDs don't come on while this feature is being used, presumably because it's linked to remote start and canceled by pressing the start button, so GM thought nobody would see them anyway

I do wish you could review all of the settings in the On/Accessory mode. Having to start the car to access some of the settings is unfortunate, at least for getting to know the car and getting it configured how you like it.

With the prevalence of mobile apps, wifi-connected cars, maybe they'll eventually replicate the settings to the mobile app so we can configure them on the couch and then hit a button to upload/download our preferences to the vehicle.

The indicator lights display for me, but it's all post-ignition for me, so that may be different from what happens for those of you with remote start.

Indeed, auto seat heating/cooling activation is a feature associated with remote start so you can have both the cabin and the seats pre-heated/cooled to the best temperature by the time you enter the car.

M6 owners are left out of this fun, as remote start is not allowed there (even though the computer knows what gear you're in, so it could safely allow remote start, or not require pressing the clutch for "regular" starts, when the trans is in neutral).

LED indicators work as expected when operated after pressing the start button. They don't remember their last state, at least not on my car, always defaulting to off and that cannot be overridden, nor can the auto heat/cool level be set.

On my ZLE when I get in the car and start, not using remote start, the seats will automatically heat or cool based on outside temperature and the light indicators while reflect.

When using remote start, it does the same, but the light indicators do not show.

For non-remote start, from my understanding and how my car has been working it is based solely on the ambient temperature that the car feels. Doesn't matter if it is 100 degrees outside, if your car is in the garage and the temperature is low enough then the heated seats will kick on.

The car can only read the temperature from its sensors not the weather channel so unless the car directly feels the temperature it may not line up with what you expect.
