So I have had My Zl1 for about 2 weeks now. I also have a 21 supra and had but sold a 21 3lt z51 C8 ( wow Chevy needs better car names) Now of course the C8 got attention everywhere it went almost to the point of being out right annoying. Even the supra still after owning it a year gets daily attention when I go out. The Camaro... Nada zip... not a head turn or anything.

Now Im not after attention that isn't my point here . IM just curious what it is about the Camaro that it seems like literally everyone hates them? I have owned nearly 49 cars in my life and non have gotten the hate or brush off this car does. My wife literally hates it and said so wont even drive it or get in it. The 1 time she rode in it all she did was have negative comments. My mom and dad who typically love when i get a new car and want to see it and ride in it... when i went to see them barely said a word and just said politely nice car but didn't ask anything about it or want to actually look at it. My brother literally walked out said oh a Camaro turned around and walked back in.

Gas stations not a word no one says a thing no one looks nothing and that typically is where is get stopped to be asked about cars. No looks when driving no thumbs ups nothing, it the strangest damn thing.

I have had on guy at a gas station say that is a shiny car what is it? I said a Camaro and hes says oh... well have a nice day and walked off.

Went to a car meet and no one even looked at it except a guy who knew what a zl1 was. there was also a garnet red ss there and zero people came over to look at it. They posted picture of the meet and no one even took a picture of either of the Camaros.

Like I said IM not after attention that part I could care less. I just find it odd how the car seems to be actively avoided by people and when you mention the word Camaro they just seem to have the light leave their eyes. I simply dont get it.

I mean yes its a zl1 but I think its a amazingly engineered car. Compared to the C8 I had this car is hands down the better performance car and handles curves like a dream. How does the general population just view these as junk cars not worth their time? Is marketing really that powerful? that chevys lack of marketing the car really hurt it that badly? and it seems every single review i see just harps on the same 3 things like a parrot that if they don't say them then their review isnt valid. IM guessing that also hurt the car hearing those things over and over.....

OH well just starting a conversation what are yalls thoughts?
At the higher trim levels, SS 1LE, ZL1, ZL1 1LE, there isn't much competition for chassis performance. The people that seek out these cars know this. The % of buyers buying a car like this though is relatively small. For the much larger % that will buy a 4, V6 or LT1 model, it doesn't make a lot less sense for the ergonomic compromises, even though you can adapt to these usually pretty well, at the lower pricepoint you don't have the performance or a performance difference effectively, so other cars are much better suited, and those make up the bulk of sales.

I honestly don't experience negative remarks. I've had people at the gas pump, or when I'm sitting in a parking lot on my lunch drive up and talk to me about the car out of the blue even the customary revs from the honda's as I drive by.

One guy recently who worked for ECO labs asked me about my car that he just got one, and asked where a pro shop was, and I referred him to the Camaro6 forums that everyone here knows these cars like the back of their hands.

one of my buds at car shows was busting my chops about having a V6 until i reminded him that it makes more horsepower than his 2007 mustang GT.when his GT was totalled a couple of weeks ago he ran out and bought the ecoboost(T4) mustang with 10 speed auto, and he loves it.maybe he didnt need the V8 after all...go figure.

I didn't care for Camaros and I honestly still think they can be very ugly if not in the right color/package. But with the right combination they are beautiful (mainly talking about the 1LE package). The performance is amazing though. It's almost the perfect car, the only real downside is the weight. The ideal combination for a fun car -> V8, Manual, RWD.

In almost two years, the only slightly negative comment was a guy saying he didn't care for rear wings.

As for me I am tired of all those girls asking for a ride in my LT1. Get a life girls! Get a Camaro yourself.

Could be you just need to get out of Asheville more often. Now, if you had the latest in bicycle tech...

My basic LT1 in gray lacks all the visual clues of its more upscale, faster brethren, intentionally. Its gray was chosen in hopes of not attracting attention. That people (especially those that write tickets or specialize in theft) might overlook it is a definite positive in my book.

As far as to what other people think about it? Who cares? Only my opinion counts as valuable for my car. Otherwise, I'm having too much fun driving it, even for mundane trips, while watching for pedestrians whose heads are so far into their iphones that they walk into traffic without looking.

People have confused my SS for a ZL1 asking how much the ZL1 set me back.

My GTO is more of a head turner than my Camaro because there are so few of them still on the road.

This is what I was going to post, a Camaro can be outfitted with a 4-cylinder, a V6, a NA V8, and then the V8-SC. Aside from the different visual trim pieces, only a real auto enthusiast will know what each trim means.

The Corvette, and the Supra are both niche performance vehicles and are less common. The thing that makes the top Camaros a performance bargain is also what makes them less special on the road. If GM decided to only make the ZL1, I suspect that it would be marked up much higher as manufacturing costs would be more expensive.

Keep the ZL1 long enough and you'll see prices climb. Around that time, you'll get the current younger owners that couldn't swing a ZL1, but remember the nostalgia of their 4-cylinder or V6 Camaro, and they'll have more resources to go after a ZL1.

Also, I haven't had crazy compliments but I don't take the car out that often. I think most people think that it's just a run-of-the-mill Camaro with some bodywork, which is fine by me. The guy in an Infiniti G35 a few weeks ago realized it wasn't a run-of-the-mill Camaro.

That's when you rev your engine next to them, they should notice then.

I just have a 1SS 1LE and I must say I have a completely different experience with my car. Almost every time I drive it I get some kind of compliment, thumbs up, or some other kind of positive gensture. I don't think I've ever had anyone say anything negative. Granted I keep my car extremely clean, but I would expect your zl1 to get even more positive gestures. Guessing maybe it's just the crowd you hang with that is more into luxury cars like bmws and stuff as that crowd would say "it's just a Camaro".

haha.

The guy in the Tesla Model 3 was a bit surprised as well when he sped up to me on the highway and wanted to see a pull. As a prior Tesla Model 3 owner I knew what was going to happen since we were already traveling at 65mph.

The ZL1 pulled head with authority while he was able to hear the dual mode exhaust in all its glory. He gave me a thumbs up. Now, if we were at a stoplight he would pull a car or so ahead until we hit around 60mph then it is over. Start throwing some turns and then you start to realize why these cars are so good for the money but you have to be an enthusiast to appreciate them.
