Cleaning something off convertible top

Hello everybody,

What would you guys recommend for cleaning out tough stains/some sort of silicon material of your convertible top? I park my car at the parking garage where I live, and they were doing some work and some sort of sealant got over my convertible top. I took it to a car wash, and most of it went, but there was some still left, but I don’t know whether because they didn’t wash it properly or if it needs some sort of cleaner. What would you guys recommend?

Ugh... That sucks.

That material may be impossible to remove, depending on what it is. Were you notified that work was being done? The company doing the work may be on the hook for any cleaning / repair, especially if you were not aware they would be working in the area (or if you parked sufficiently far away that you could not have reasonably expected your car to be subjected to debris).

For simpler stuff, isopropyl alcohol wiped on with a microfiber towel may be all you need. Some stronger chemicals might also do the job in a similar fashion, but you should understand whether they are safe for canvas or not AND test on an inconspicuous area to be sure it doesn't hurt the color of the top.

I like ragg topp or 303 products. Have had great success with both

The thing is, I had no idea that they were working and there was no indicator or sign of any work being done in the parking garage. Most of it was cleaned up, but I’ll try to look at the isopropyl alcohol option.

A forum member posted in this thread that his interior guy had success using lacquer thinner to remove a small spot of adhesive from his top. Still waiting for him to post additional results.

You might want to request that your post get moved to the 6th gen Camaro Convertible forum. You'll likely get more responses there.
