We'll see for mine. At this point it is out of warranty.

Do you know if the flush service is installing a new trans filter? I do all of my own work so I’ll never know from experience. I see some people having issues with the shudder returning and have always wondered if the dealer is just using the machine for the flush without dropping the pan.

I can’t see why they wouldn’t install a new filter but in the same breath I could also see it not happening.

My write-up for today included only charges for 20 (?quarts) of fluid at $11.20 each and labor for $105. It referenced bulletin #18-NA-355 and stated 'Performed Fluid Exchange Service'. Total before taxes $329. No mention of a filter.

It doesn’t appear they installed a new filter.

I’m going to make a huge assumption here that because of the triple flush using the machine, the filter is “cleaned too”.

I’ve serviced my trans fluid once per year of ownership. Not everyone has access to a lift but i feel the filter should be replaced. It’s true I don’t get all of the fluid out of the trans. (About 6-1/2 quarts). At this point, there can’t be much of the original fluid still in my car.

Hopefully you don’t get the shudder again.

I had my dealer perform two (preventive) flushes: first with the pre-2019 "new" fluid, that service also included the filter, then another one with the 2019 final Mobil1 LV ATF as per 18-NA-355, and this second time the invoice didn't indicate a filter charge, so I assume it wasn't replaced again.

Great, let's hope this was the beginning and the end of your transmission problems

Does the shudder feel like you’re driving over small bumps on the road?

That’s how my car felt yesterday for the first time. ‘18 2SS 6k miles.

Yes, like you're on rumble strips. When I had it letting off the accelerator made it go away temporarily.

I've had the same thing happen a couple of times. Also had the shuddering a couple of times. I thought it was a freak thing, but after seeing this thread, I will have to have it fixed.

So one example goes like this:

Stuck in rush hour traffic so sometimes I lightly tap on the gas... from the beginning of 1st up to the moment before TC changes to 2nd, I notice that it sort of hangs and revs up before computer finally decides to switch to 2nd. During that moment as well the car lurches forward violently, sort of like when you're driving in a manual and you shift quickly and engage the clutch too quickly.

I bought this car two years ago and I knew about this problem but wasn't concerned the car still have two years warranty. The warranty expired June 20th and I noticed the shudder last week. Just my luck. Anyways, I wasn't 100% that's what I felt so I read through this entire thread and yep, it was like driving over a rumble strip. My car only has 20,000kms (12,500 miles). I called my local GM dealer and he quoted me at $878 cdn to do the flush. So I called customer service and they didn't say for sure, but sounded like they will honor the warranty, but said to take it in to get diagnosed first. So its going in next Thursday. I will ride with the tech.

What are people paying for the flush ?

Also, will a tune really fix the problem too ?

A tune does not fix this problem, which is related to worn parts in the torque converter. Fluid change may save it, but best to change fluid before you get the shudder.

I've only got about 20 miles on the car since the shudder started so hopefully that hasn't effected the torque converter.

The shudder indicates the clutch discs are already irregularly worn. Whether they can be saved by a fluid change is a question of degree. Think of it like scratched paint. A light scratch can be buffed out, a deep scratch needs a repaint.
Hopefully you'll be OK.

thanks for the info. Low miles on the car so hopefully just the flush.
