Overall, I expect the cars are very, very close. I didn't see an obvious advantage for the GT350s over the SS 1LE in BS, and I would expect the Mach 1 to be the same: neither better nor worse.
I was real close to a GT350 this year, but after he got camber plates and a more ideal alignment I wasn't anymore. I think that's going to be the M1's advantage. An experienced local just got one, not sure if he's going to enter FS or CAM but it should be interesting to see how he gets along with it.

The gearing may or may not be an advantage, we have some courses that top out near 80 and 2nd is perfect, others that are slower and 2nd is a bit too high.

It seems the Mach 1 can get like high 2 range of camber, but we should in theory be able to get 2.5-2.6 so not that different. I need to go attempt to max it out soon and see what my car can do, but assuming it's normal it's not that far off.

It'll be interesting to see especially since Strano is driving a Mach 1 so we have a good benchmark.

He has both the 19's and 20's, 19's are $485 today. Compared to TR is like $430 something for 20's and $373 for 19's so more of a premium on the 19's. And remember the 19's are 35 profile so actually slightly bigger overall diameter than the 20's.
I did not need to know this. And I definitely didn't need to find the guy on ebay, but I did.

Agree with you that it's silly to dismiss the tire for the Camaro without anyone actually trying it. I'm not very optimistic about it given the sizing, but I would not be surprised at all if it's a faster tire than the Falken for some drivers. I'd really be interested in trying Yoks on back and Falkens on the front if they had a wider rear (or try with smaller Falkens up front). This could really be the hot setup.

Update that I got my 3 italy yokos and they're March 2021 date code and all look good so that does seem like a viable source. My one last tire rack tire is July 2021 date code so not very different. Should be good to go. First autocrosses are in two weeks, then DC national tour a week after that. We'll see.

Hope my foot is healed enough in time to run the DC Tour. I'll be on Falkens from Nats last year if I do.

Also wondering about the condition of the lot. We haven't run there since 2019, and it wasn't good then. There was a school there today and hoping to hear something about that tonight.

Sounds like it's not too terrible based on the feedback I saw. And realistically, if any car is built to deal with bumps and holes without even noticing it...it's our cars with their big wide tires and magic shocks. Hope your foot is good!

Yeah, some of the comments were more positive than I expected, but I'm not fully sold. I trust Sam to give us about the best course possible with the least chance of making mid-event course alterations due to breakup, too. It should be fun to drive no matter what (as long as it's dry).

Haha very nice.

I've got a deposit for a 2023 Nissan Z but I'm fully prepared to cancel it if the thing can't get any front camber

I'm glad to read Sam is having a hand at the course at FedEx.

I have to cancel for the DC Tour. While it looks like my foot will be good enough to do the event, the only time I can schedule a physical therapy intake assessment at the place my doctor wants me to use is at 8:00am that Saturday.

Looks like the Charlotte Pro will be my first event of the year.

Damn, sucks, was hoping you'd make it, but it does sound like the smart choice.

Update on my end. Firstly, my alignment, they could only get 2.3 degrees camber in front. I might have to try on my own to mess with that but I'm going to wait until after DC. Rear was good though, 2.1 degrees with 0.06 per side of toe in.

Got to try out the car with above alignment and with 295 square yokos on stock 20's and a 3mm spacer in front. Everything else stock SS 1LE.
Weekend was very cold and mostly rained out. I was planning to run warminster (runway slalomfest, mostly concrete) and at metlife stadium (lots of sweepers on asphalt) but the metlife one got cancelled. Luckily warminster ended up with no rain although it was very cold for morning sessions, like 20's lol. Afternoon was OK though and I got some good testing in temps in the mid 50's and sunny.

Car was really loose as expected, between the cold and the square tire setup. But I ended up just pumping front tire pressure to the moon and it made it much better - still a little loose but pretty good. 38 front tire pressure, 32 rear, is what I ended at. As a side benefit it made response sharper with front pressure that high.

Car was really fun and I ended up taking top PAX and philly scca is a very competitive region so that's encouraging. No video unfortunately because I forgot my gopro at home (always forget something the first event).

If it feels like that in DC this weekend then hopefully will do pretty well for the tour.

Well done!

I don't know if the same will hold true for the SS 1LE, but I was able to get more front camber as events and miles added up on my old turbo Camaro. Without checking notes, I think was at -2.0/-2.1 at the first alignment with just a few miles and at -2.3/-2.5 at my last alignment with 33k and nearly two full years of events and two drivers.

Your rear alignment numbers are almost identical to mine (or what they were...should probably put on a rack and find out if anything's changed even though paint ticks are all the same).
