E85 vs 93 2022 Q2
So I have been noticing that as fuel prices increase, so has the gap between a gallon of e85 and 93. Currently in my area, e85 is nearly a $1.25 cheaper than 93. Near empty, the cost difference between fill ups is over $15 and climbing. My camaro is not my daily and has about 2 years of warranty left. I understand my fuel economy will decrease and I will see a small gain in power.
Has anyone else switched or seriously considering switching? I understand several of you do not have e85 available close by, I would like to hear from people like myself who have e85 available nearby. Thank you. |

I just switched my 2022 Camaro Lt1, love it and year here in Missouri its about $1.00 cheaper which is still a big savings. I was getting about 27 mpg on the highway on 93 octane and I get about 23-24 now in normal driving. Combined around 20 mpg city and hwy. I'm happy with that. I had converted my 2016 C7 Corvette that I sold in December and it was about the same mileage difference. I bought E85 for the Camaro the first of last week and it was 2.69 per gallon, not sure what it is today but guessing over 3.00 and I'm also guessing 91 octane is 4.00 to 4.25. I run 87 octane in my 6.2 Silverado unless I'm towing and it was 3.26 per gallon 2 days ago. My opinion is its well worth the switch.

I agree. Id go full e85 if my fuel system supported it, but ive been blending 50/50. Havent filled up in a month or two but e85 was about $1 cheaper. You get about 70-75% of your MPG on e85 compared to 93 so not sure there is any real savings, but i do it for the octane and performance improvements, which for forced induction are huge.
It burns more clean smelling, even blended, so thats a side effect bonus. Smells like burnt hand sanitizer on cold starts ![]() Only downside is it can be harsher on eng components than gasoline. So far havent seen any camaro owners with e85 fuel related issues. As long as you change oil at suggested intervals, and dont let the fuel system sit idle with e85 for months on end you'll prob be fine.

Lucky, e85 in Florida is just as expensive as regular and midgrade. It was $2 a gallon in November. Now the last I saw it was 3.50+. I have only gotten to enjoy one fill up using e85 since my tune because the 30% rule doesn't financially make sense here.

While I would like to pay E85 prices, I also know E85 is harder on the car especially in colder winter climates. So, as much as I hate the price of 93. I'll be sticking with 93 until weather breaks finally.

The warranty still covers other aspects. Electrical/Suspension, etc. At least my warranty does. But I did my conversion at 36k miles which is when the power train warranty expired. Yes I have the extended warranty but I told myself I wasn't going to do this if all I was concerned about was reselling the car or was worried about the engine failing. If it happens it happens. I'll deal with it. But my warranty still covers everything else that is stock.

Warranty is an issue for some so I can understand that cause once you break into the ECU you can put it back to stock tune but GM will catch it if they want to. Since I have HP tuners I'd put it back if something did happen but doubt they'd warranty any power train as stated above. I noticed when I dropped my truck off this morning for Oil change, rotation and alignment on my 2021 Silverado, the station across the street was $3.15 for E85, still cheaper here then Premium fuel.

i didn’t know anyone actually paid attention to the cost difference of ethanol vs gasoline. i exclusively run e85 when i can reasonably drive the car. typically april-november. i haven’t looked at gas or e85 prices here. from the sounds of it, i will be less than thrilled. i think i recall e85 being $1-1.25 cheaper than premium. i may look around tomorrow if this pile will start up. haven’t touched it in quite a while.

If I can find some cheap catless longtubes, I believe I will flex fuel and tune this spring. I need longtubes for my build anyway. I have a new blower kit sitting here waiting for a fuel system upgrade to hopefully install later this year. Last edited by LT1ornothing; 03-04-2022 at 02:01 PM. |

Either way like I said. I bit the bullet took a chance. If something happens it happens. But I'm at 43k now. And I just had the car in the shop recently for inspection. Hit a pothole and was worried I may have damaged something on the suspension. They said everything is good on the car. Even more so the exhaust. They said whoever did the exhaust did a great job on my car.

Any other mods you had to do for e85 other than the kit that is sold?
