no rear park assist due to chip shortage

apparently camaros built after 1/31 will come without rear park assist. Can you retrofit one? is it expensive ?

I’ve been curious about this too. The distribution guide says “certain vehicles will be forced to include 00Y” which is the code for no rear park assist. What does certain mean? My build sheet from my dealer after 2000 status did not list the 00Y code but I suppose it could be updated before or when it actually gets built. The date was originally 1/10 then changed to 1/31 so it sounds like the situation is fluid.

They said they are leaving it installed but not working because of chips. You get a $50 credit and once they get chips they will fix it for free.

Is that the beep beep backup or the camera? As long as u got the camera, who cares either way.

My order is impacted by this per the invoice, good thing is that it will be retrofitted at a later date. I don't mind as it is better than not having the car built at all or having it delayed even longer.

Yes, it's the "beeper" radar that displays the distance from objects behind the car in the gauge cluster.

This is unacceptable to be honest. Camaros are already missing front park sensors and 360 cameras. That is screaming for scraping or loosing the front bumper on a curb. If the rear park sensors are also missing then what?

I ordered the car in December and it was built mid February. I will be very unhappy if I don’t get that function in my 2ss 1le. That should affect the rear cross traffic alert as well. Not acceptable.

I was looking at some in-transit vehicles the other day on Chevy's website (to see if it would be worthwhile to try and grab one of those rather than keep waiting for my order to be picked up), and I noticed most of these were coming without the rear park assist. According to the little information icon, it says your dealer can retrofit these, but it's not expected until quarter 4 of this year.

Who is going to track the availability and remember which cars did not have these sensors once the car is out of the dealer lot? Does GM have a plan or relying on people forgetting all of this and accepting the car as is? I highly doubt a dealer is going to track a minor item which costs thousands of dollars in application and installation fees. $50 credit is also a joke.

I guess VIN number will show the package 00Y suggesting no rear park assist due to this...

It's right on the window sticker: https://www.dmchevy.com/services/gm/...ndowSticker%27

Not sure why there's so many tears about this. The alternative is removing it all together (no credit) or not building the car.

Do what I do. Use the 3 mirrors. I back in everywhere to prevent front damage in my 2014. I also make sure my left side is clear so that also keeps my right side clear in the narrow drive through's. The $50 credit is a freebee, take it or leave it! I'm sure you will get a recall notice when chips are available. Take a deep breath. You will need it during this unbelievable wait we are all experiencing. I waited for 6 months with no allocation until I found one in transit and secured that one. Consider yourself lucky!
