Delivery issues
Well I am probably not the only one but I made the mistake of buying a ZLE that showed to be in transit on Chevys website about a month ago. I was told by the dealer that it was built and due to be delivered 2/22. That obviously didn’t happen. I am sure it is sitting in Lansing waiting on some chips. I have bought a ton of cars in my day and can’t believe I did this but the dealer told
me that I had to finalize the purchase at time of contract so I did the finance package and signed the purchase agreement without doing my due diligence. Since signing the paperwork, I have learned more about the delays and the fact that Chevy has been showing cars “in transit” for months before they actually arrived. I told the dealer I wanted to cancel my contract but they said that wasn’t possible as the car was already titled in my name. Anyone else been in the same situation and if so, how did the dealer handle it? Chevy is screwing a lot of people at I would think is in danger of a class action suit for deceptive trade practices by advertising cars “in transit” that are actually sitting in a hold lot, outside in the snow for Months . Sorry for the rant but I am not a happy consumer Would love to hear from anyone who has dealt with the same situation |

I cant offer much advice but I had passed on a great deal just a few weeks ago just for this same deal. The dealer was pushing and pushing for a me to sign a contract on a car thar hadn't been delivered and a car I hadn't seen. They did say I had a right of refusal if anything was wrong with the car so I'd check your contract for that clause perhaps? It sucks dealers are doing this.

You may use it as leverage but the dealer did mention IF something was wrong with the car. Seeing as how the car hasn't arrived they may fight that. Just read it thoroughly and use the shit out of it.

They shouldnt have put the paper work through yet, and sent off the title work and got funded for the loan.
They might have had you sign, but they cant sell you a car they dont have. You didnt take delivery yet and there are laws against them forcing you to take delivery. You can walk right now. I'd kiss any deposit goodbye, but you are not obligated to purchase it. I did the same with an in-transit 2SS 1LE. Was built on 2/1 and says its going to be here on 3/21. I might pass on it but all the papers have been signed and the loan approved. But nothing has been finalized. What you are saying makes me think they closed out the paperwork, sent in the title work and started your loan. They CANNOT do that. You can refuse delivery, for any reason. |

Agreed. I am not sure how they titled a car in your name when you haven't taken delivery of the car yet and signed everything. Anyway, you should only be out your deposit assuming it is not refundable if you decide terminate the deal.

I guess maybe I contact the Attorney Generals office to see if what the dealer did is legal. I tried to get the dealer to cancel the car a couple of weeks ago and they pushed back and said it wasn’t possible. Sounds like I might need the AGs office to put some heat on them |

Or if you want to speed up the delivery process, tell the dealer that since you are now responsible for the car, you are going to call the police and report it stolen. You can call GM and open a case with them as well saying you were forced to buy a car you havent seen or taken delivery of. Tell them about calling the cops as well. You have leverage. You can also say you signed the papers under duress or you didnt understand that you were entering into a contract, and you dont have even have the car. There are ways. Alternatively you can call the local news station and get them involved. Bad press is way more powerful than threats. |

I don't see how, legally or ethically, they "sold" a car that they didn't even have possession of. How they got a title and loan paperwork through a lender, etc etc
So you sat in the business office and signed a bunch of paperwork and contracts??? Alas patience is the name of the game these days. |

i dont know any dealer who will sign and title without a car present. that 100% goes against GM's "ethical behavior" and the letter they sent out. id 100% call GM and have them step in if you want to back out. no way this should be titled yet or you making payments if you are.

Of course it was in different times but back in 2017 I bought my ZL1 before it got to the dealership. It was in transit. I signed al the papers and had the funding and all the paperwork was thru and it was all finalized on a Thursday. I think it arrived that next Tuesday. I also bought my Hellcat unseen and before it got to the dealership. So this is not something out of the ordinary. Also back in 2016 people were putting down deposits and signing contracts and buying ZL1s and then waiting several months before it got to the dealership. I remember when I posted on Facebook that I got my ZL1, a friend who had been waiting for 4 months for his was shocked and asked how I got one that fast. I am not sure I would do something like that with the way things are these days. But it might just be a matter of waiting a little longer.

I can't imagine the dealership having the title or MSO (if like motorcycles)in hand to even process the paperwork to produce a title in your name. I'd request a copy of the title or similar type of documentation in your name since they said it's 100% finalized they should be able to produce it.

Class action lawsuit? Not likely. No one made you and anyone else purchase a car that was in transit.
