Rear suspension/brake noise under hard full stop

Well this might not be an issue but I think it is. I haven't driven the ZL1 for over 2 months.. just installed new high wing, and new tires. Car was about 2 wks on jack stands waiting for the wheels to get powder coated, tires mounted and me to make time.

Yesterday i completed everything, i cleaned the caliper with wheel cleaner. Put it all together.. went for a drive. Everything seems normal. However, with no music, if i come to a full stop and step hard on the brake, the car will rock forward then back (this is normal, it happens to all cars when you come to a stop). When I goes back there is a noise coming from the rear tires area. Is that normal? Sounds like the shocks compressing. I never realized this noise before. If i come to an stop without stomping the brake, there is no noise whatsoever..

I realized this was an issue because I was driving in a street with lots stop signs and i would come to the full stop somwhat hard..

Is the noise normal? Can someone else try and see if there is noise? I tried 2 other cars and no noise. Maybe the rear sway bar links? Any help would be appreciated. I drove the car about 200 miles with highway, city and canyon runs. There is no noise whatsoever any other time, no less braking capabilities.. should I even worried?

What kind of noise is it? Whoosh? Creak? Squeak? Grind?

What kind of cleaner was used on the calipers? Did any get into the pads/rotors?

Are ambient temps any different than what you've normally driven before?

There's lots of things that can impact noises like that, but generally if it's something as soft as you describe and not a harsh sound like grinding is should be OK to drive on. My initial guess without having the above info is it's damper or bushing noise as the car pitches. These cars are more performance oriented and will prioritize ride/handling over noise performance. It's definitely realistic that the Camaro would have a noise in a certain driving scenario (especially something like pitching under braking) while other cars are silent.

Funny you posted this

I’ve been noticing the same thing from my SS, I recently installed the Chevrolet performance 6-piston kit, and did the matching red rears, I thought maybe I had a caliper bolt loose or something. Anyway same behavior mines almost a pop, but it simply sounds like the pads abruptly releasing the rear rotors.

I can’t see any caliper movement when I had my wife go up and down the driveway to simulate it, but I’ll have it in the air to check my work this weekend. Everything else rides and drives fine, and as you stated with easy braking it is fine, 0 noise.

Did you put grease to the pads? I wonder if my wheel cleaner that i sprayed all over the pads and calipers removed the grease on the pads and guide pins and that metal clip that keeps the pads in place .

Yes a pop is a good definition of it. I have a video and it sounds like a pop i thin. Gotta try to drive the car again soon to figure this out but I will wait for your feedback

As you mentioned earlier, sway bar links was the first thing to "pop" into my mind.

Yeah but shouldnt that be making the noise all the time while driving versus only while braking? Worth looking at it thou. Need to get the car lifted for inspection
