Here's a little story.

I don't drive The Mistress in rain. She's a show/weekend car so I have the choice. I have a Genesis v8 sedan with MPS4S as my DD.

I have been caught out in rain 4 times in the Z in 4-1/2 years. Very first time I hydroplaned at 40 mph in light rain on a dished+crowned road. Car was 2 weeks old still in break in, sunny Saturday morning freak blue sky drizzle/shower. Tires had 500+ miles so it wasn't mold release, and I was steady speed not on the throttle other than to maintain speed. Regained traction about 6" from the curb and went home to change my shorts.

Again at 6mo old at 50mph in heavy rain on a flat road in snow/ice mode again light throttle. Fortunately I was in the rightmost lane as the car drifted 2' into the breakdown lane before I regained traction. Tires were still new maybe 1700 miles. Slowed down to 40 and put my hazards on. Limped it the rest of the way at 40, embarrassed and pissed off.

Moral of the story: the Goodyear Supercar 3 tires are indeed amazing on hot dry asphalt, but they will try to kill you in rain.

The solution is another set of wheels and tires. I have 4... Summer (PS4S), Winter (Pilot Alpin), Track (OEM wheels and SC3s), Autocross (RT660/RE71).

Thanks all for the feedback. I will buy the PS4S for now. Maybe next year or in a couple years I will figure out where to keep another set of wheels. I will most likely slap the SC3s on those.

All 4 as a coffee table or 2 as an end table?

This...I keep my autocross wheels/tires in a corner inside the house. Keeps em warm through the winter.

Correct, but as others have already said, you are now comparing different tires. Pilot sports are a great tire for the track as well.... but ps4s aint no pilot sports cups.

That's my point. The premise of the thread is flawed as it compares a primarily track tire (GYSC) to a primarily street tire (PS4S). To make the thread meaningful, we should compare, for example, a Cup track tire to the GY.

The Pilot Sport Cup 2 is Michelin's Streetable Track & Competition tire like the GY, and they are not recommended for driving in wet conditions, like the GY.

I would entirely do this if it were up to me and only me. However, I live with my girlfriend of 5 years and she aboslutely hates the smell of tires. To me its heaven. To her....she gets sick riding as a passenger on track not from the g forces but from the smell of cooking brake pads and melting tires.

They will be releasing that in a couple weeks. Maybe I will just pull the trigger on those and be the guinea pig for everyone. They are stating lower lap times than the PS4S but longer wear.

It had better be after 5 years. Hope it'll be a lot cheaper, too (I know, I know, but one can dream, eh?)

I just did a little research. Prepare to be disappointed. The PS5 is going to have 1.7% better laps times than the PS4 it is replacing. It will be slower than the PS4S for sure. Probably going to be a couple more years before the PS5S shows up.
