Neither of these should be deal-breakers as you can "fix" them. But, it did make for a relatively unappealing looking refresh.

OP, the good news is there is very little difference in the main reason for buying the SS, the amazing performance for the money. The ability (if so desired) to drive it from the showroom to the track under warranty is astonishing in this day and age. You really can’t go wrong with any year in your range.

I hear you man, but unless you lucked out and bought black, the 2019 front end looks like an extremely rushed last minute design on the Friday morning of a long weekend when everyone was already half baked and ready to go before the shift was over.

For example, if you want rewinding satellite or HD radio, you need the 2019+, because it has a new infotainment platform compared to the 2016-2018. However, if you are more focused on performance and handling capabilities, you can save a lot by going with a 2018 and a manual trans. I won't go into the budding discussion of looks, it's subjective anyway. Suffice to say, I absolutely love my 2018 2SS.

The 8L90, first introduced in 2014-2015 with the C7 if I remember correctly, had an endemic torque converter shudder issue that was only solved in 2019 with a non-hygroscopic fluid, so it's possible that a 2018 exhibits this issue, but it's fixable with a TSB at the dealership. The 10L80 is the "little brother" of the ZL1's 10L90, it has a significantly lower torque rating than either the 10L90 or the 8L90, but it doesn't seem to have widespread issues, apart from some inherent quirks the likes of what every transmission has. As I said above, neither the LT1 engine nor the rest of the drivetrain has changed substantially from 2016 to 2022 in the SS trim. In terms of handling, I'm sure you're aware of the 1LE track package that cannot be retrofitted. However, I also have a standard 2SS and switched to wider 1LE wheels with some quality tires, plus I added the BMR rear cradle lockout kit to eliminate the slight bushing deflection in the rear. These enhancements are more than enough for the street IMO, cornering capability is much improved with them. I added the 6-piston brakes, too, since I have a bit more power than stock. One final point, the standard SS sits a bit higher than the SS 1LE, which may be viewed both as an advantage (much less of a chance of driveway/parking ramp scraping) or a drawback (handling is less tight, no lowered look).

Mostly cosmetic and tech changes between 16-18 and 19-22 but the auto transmission stuff is significant. I have a 17 with the A8 but was fortunate to catch the shudder early and the transmission performs just fine. If you're leery about the A8 issues, might be better to go for an A10 car or manual...

Yes, 4-piston Brembo brakes front and rear for both the 1SS and the 2SS. I upgraded these to larger 1LE rotors and 6-piston calipers because of the extra power, the 4-piston front brakes are quite good for a stock SS, stopping distance is short, and the stock Ferodo pads are outstanding. (They dust a lot "in return", so some members swapped them out for PowerStop pads that have lesser performance but virtually no brake dust.)
