Long tube headers for occasional road course use
I am keeping the car relatively stock until my drivetrain warranty expires. Car currently has a RotoFab intake and the AWE touring exhaust (no secondary cats). I intend to keep the stock blower and run 93 octane. I want a reliable combination and do not expect to exceed 650 hp. I am currently considering the Kook's 1 and 7/8" ceramic coated headers but would consider others if it can support mods in my hp range and not cause heating/melting issues when tracked. Based on my reading of the forum I also expect to replace the the throttle body and maybe a cam (if necessary).
I am sure many on this forum have ideas but the ones from people who track their cars might carry a little more weight in my decision. Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

I've got Kooks LT thru AB and it's as much a track car as street car.

I road course track mine with ARH ceramic coated headers. It’s cooler underhood with the coated headers. Good call.

Installing a cam wouldn’t be necessary at the power level you’re looking for and would be expensive given other options for adding power. Most people install one after maximizing the stock fuel system it to drive the high side fuel pump harder

Ceramic coated LTs will keep things a bit cooler under the hood. They will increase the sound, so beware of some tracks that have noise restrictions. Chose a cam carefully, some cams move your power-band upward in the rpm range which can make things less responsive at low and mid rpms; may or may not be an issue depending on the tracks you run.

That's right. My cam causes hp to increase at an increasing rate above 6000 to say 6600-6700, so that's where I need to be

Thank you for your reply. I notice you are running ethanol. I go through 3 tanks of fuel on a single track day. How much E85 do you have to carry with you for a track day? Is it worth the effort? Just wondering if it might be an option for me. (Is the CW3 for Chief Warrant Officer?) |
