Best Tires for Drag?

Hey Guys!

I just ordered a 22 ZL1 - who knows then I’ll have it but that’s besides the point

It’s manual no track pack, so I have the 20” rims unfortunately

What’s the best tires that are street legal that I can put on the stock rim? I’ll be dragging this thing at our local drag strip.

Also what’s the Widest tire I can get on there without modding anything

Thanks!

I run 305/35/20 555r2 Nittos. On a unprepped surface I can manage a 1.7-1.8 60ft. Haven't been on a prepped track with it. Either way this tire imo is the best all around for traction, treadwear, and streetability. The MT Street R will hook better at the track but wear faster, balance is hit or miss, and they cause rear end wag at high speeds.

That being said to keep your front are rear in spec you will likely need a 305/30/20 555r2. Justin Keith went 1.5 60ft foot in his 19 C7 ZR1 with that tire. It ran 9.9 @ 140 with cai, tune, tire at a prepped track.

The Nitto NT555RII in the stock 305/30/20 would work just fine. No need to run a taller size, it'll slow you down especially in a stick car.

MT ET Street on Forgestar F14, but only at the strip. Otherwise, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on OEM wheels.

Definitely more quiet, and better in the rain.

Nitto 555R2 for the street as your well rounded drag radial tire and a separate set of track wheels with some MT's on them for the drag strip.

If you are on those tires then plan on catching lots of gaps from cars with less power.

Exactly. Any car with NT555R or R2, or Toyo R888R, will hook way better on the street than PS4S.

Perhaps, but they're a great all season, all weather, all surface, "street" tire, with the exception being at the strip. There's nothing better for Denver streets/roads right now. And besides, I can makeup most gaps

I was at Gateway when Justiin ran in the 9s with his Zr1 at his street car takeover event. He has used the 555r2s on a bunch of his stuff including his 90s Silverado with the Lt4 swap. I've run them on my C7, had two sets including 305-35-19 for the street and 285-40-18 for drag racing. If I drag race my new Lt1 I'll run them on it also. I currently have the G2s on it and they pretty much match the 555R2s. He also ran them on his Track Hawk front and rear.

The nt555r2 is pretty much the best street drag radial you can buy. R888 are good too, but noisy and they wear quick and forget about the rain.

I’ve got to get them good and hot to hook at my power level but when hot they hook good. I use these for the street and I have my 17” drag pack for the track.

When I look at road race results for autos and bikes worldwide, I mainly find Michelins in the winner's circles and dominating both, no Nittos.
