Stock LT1 LSD- Anyone have info about it?

I can't find any information about the diff on the LT1 other than that its an LSD. Anyone know what type of LSD it is?

I find that when the wheels spin, the car doesn't track totally straight. Not sure if this is a diff or suspension geometry issue. It's fun but makes the car a handful. Do SS/1LEs with the ELSD share this characteristic?

My basis of comparison is my old 2008 M3 with the MLSD, when the wheels spin the car always tracks dead straight making it easier to control.

The LT1 has the same differential as the SS. It is a mechanical limited slip. There is nothing wrong with your car. These cars do not alwaya go straight during wheel spin with the nannies turned off. A stickier compound tire in the rear will help the condition.

I have nothing to offer you in your M3 comparison except that those M3 V8s made almost no torque which should probably be why it would go straight since there is less rear wheel torque. 2008 m3 is about 160 ft lbs of torque less than an LT1...

I was wondering if anyone knew if it was a torsion or viscous type..

And Yes my M3 doesn't have much torque but enough to spin the tires in first. The intake/exhaust note on the S65, response and high RPM aint bad though!

I prefer the exhaust note on the m5 v10 myself. Those M3s were definitely some incredibly great handling machines, ran circles around the much more powerful c63 amg it competed against on the curvy tracks.

If I'm not mistaken the LT1 and SS are MLSD's only the 1LE and ZL1's are ELSD's.

The V10 sure is sweet. Pricy to maintain though.
As well as the M3 handles, the Camaro 6 is a superior chassis stock for stock. progress!

Just sold my LT1 for a Z and I will say when the traction kicks in on the Z it’s more managable and doesn’t move around as much. I would assume that is because the Z has the eLSD.. also haven’t found limits of Z yet like I did the LT1 and it’s not that warm outside yet.

The control issues compared to the two could be in the torque management since the Z has a couple hundred more hp. So tuning will control the power to the rear tires to keep the Z in a straight line where the NA motor of the Lt1 needs to spin the tires a little more to make it feel faster then it really is. Its all in the mind of the driver.

As I understand this correct, the diff in our LT1 is same as I had in my old SS.

The LSD can take a beating from a manual with sticky tires. I can confirm that.
