LT1 Hood Vent and Rain/Snow

I'm buying a new LT1 as my daily driver and didn't even think about the fact that it has a hood vent. Does this mean that my engine could be damaged in the event of rain or snow? I've read that while driving, the engine gets so hot the water just evaporates but what about when it's parked?

These hood vents have underside flow guides that channel water away from sensitive spots. Don't worry, you're buying a car, not a pack of cotton candy

Absolutely, what you should really be worrying about is the lack of traction in said snow or raiin instead of the hood vents. You need to be very careful in this car driving in those conditions.

Very salient point by 1LEornothing. OP, if you want to drive this car in serious rain, you want to change the tires to something more amenable to those conditions, such as Michelin PS4S or Continental ECS or similar, maybe even high performance all-season tires.

If snow driving is also foreseen, I'd keep dedicated summer and winter sets, RWD with high horsepower output gets tricky in the snow with anything but real snow tires.

When I test drove the 1SS, I noticed the hood vents were just open to the engine bay. Txt'd a buddy with a gen5, he suggested I drop some water on the hood and see first hand what happens. So I asked the salesman for a small cup of water, then threw it on the hood and let it roll down into the vent. Lifted the hood, and I didn't really like where the water was going.

On my other cars that had factory hood "vents", there was provision to collect and drop it through a tube onto the ground. Chevy just drops the water right onto the air intake. Can't be a great option for someone leaving the car exposed to the elements, as well as driving it in bad weather.

You’re afraid of plastic getting wet.

You're thinking the water from a heavy rain would only stay on the plastic.

The water drains off in front of the engine... When I wash the car the engine never gets wet...

Yes, you'll have to buy an extremely large beach umbrella and drive around with it when it rains... On the plus side, you'll build massive forearms during highway driving.

Can confirm lack of traction in both even with all seasons. These all seasons don't feel much different than my summer tires tbh. I dread having to come to a stop at an inclined stop sign or light. I won't go anywhere.

I fish tailed at 60mph getting on the gas to hard and that was cold dry pavement.

I literally have to drive like I'm in a 1990 Ford Tempo in terms of how toned down my gas pedal use would be.

Ice scares me, on the way to work this morning the entrance ramp for highway had black ice and a big 4x4 pickup was in the ditch cops etc. I hit the breaks lightly and felt the car slide began pumping the breaks lightly to slow down more on the entrance ramp.
