Issues relocating harness
Hi all,
So I received my Conti DWS06+ 305/30/20 and 285/30/20 on M017s (kudos to Akio at PK Auto!). Figured to be on the safe side I would relocate the wiring harness. Looking at the wiring loom and so forth it looks different than what I've seen on YouTube and elsewhere in that there doesn't seem to be a whole lot extra to 'play' with, and there's no backward 'J' in the routing. Mine is a relatively early Gen6, so I would guess things changed since then. Anyway I don't see a way to easily move the harness. What do you all think? As it is, with the tires installed there is a small amount of space between the tire and that part of the liner, enough to pass a pencil through (but not my finger). Is that enough? |

Mine looked like that too. I undid the clip as high as possible. I think I undid 3 or so push pins and unplug the harness.
Then I routed to the brake line beginning on the top part and zip tie there. Then routed the rest to the plug. No issues with my 325/30/19. I'll look to see if I have a pic Also, the sizes you are using are ZL1 OEM sizes. Will that still create issues? I know the fenders are wider on the ZL1 but that shouldn't affect the clearance inside. Sent from my moto g(7) power using Tapatalk

The sizes I have are ZL1 and SS 1LE OEM sizes. Some have mentioned having some rubbing despite that, so I had figured I would move it just in case. I'm not sure if a pencil's width is enough space between the liner and the tire. If it is I'll leave it alone. |

Harness Clearance
I have both ZL1 wheels and SS1LE wheels, both with oem tire sizes used for my 2016 SS...no rubbing issues at all with those sizes.

You made the overall height in the back shorter so you should be safer than stock. I too am running the same sizes. If you look closely you’ll notice the tiniest extra wheel gap versus stock

Yes, you're right. I think it's combination of height and width that affects how close you get to the liner.

in the earlier CA6 SSes you do need to address this drivers side issue with ZL1 tire/wheel fitment.
I am not sure about 2019+ SSes. For sure my 2020 LT1 it either did not have the connector or GM already moved it for us. So I cannot say newer SSes do not have the issue. It is easy to spot. On my 2016 2SS I disconnected the attachments and covered the connector with a small plastic bag and pushed it out of the wheel well. If you let your back tire rub through to the connector you will be very sorry.

I think I took out like 3 or so clip. Then routed to the top portion of the brake line and zip tie it there.. then, i routed the rest. It felt like I had to somewhat bend it but It was probably because the harness tubing was used to being on the old routing. Sent from my moto g(7) power using Tapatalk

Wait, is this true? I remember when doing my research on this that stock ss 1le and zl1 sizes should fit with no rubbing. Are you sure you don’t mean 305/35/20 rubs? When these cars first came out that was a popular size because there weren’t many options for 305/30/20. How can I tell if mine is rubbing? Will there just be a hole in the liner/an obvious spot?

I’m about to do the same wheel and tire setup but mine is lowered and has mrc but also is a 2016. Will this make the rubbing the harness issue worse?

I think the majority of people who have had rubber are people with 1LE tires sizes or fitted bigger and also track their cars.
I purchased a used set of 1LE wheels and moved the harness just in case. What I did was unclip the harness from the body and detached the harness at the connector. I then routed the wire down behind the brake line and then around the black, round subframe to body support. No way its going to move. I then put the fender liner back on and used a plastic push pin to secure the bulged out portion of the liner to the body using an existing hole. |

Thanks all for your descriptions of how you relocated the harness.
I don't track my car. I think what I'll do is drive it around the neighborhood a little bit and check it for rubbing; if there is none I'll check again after a longer drive. There was a YouTube video the person had obvious rubbing from driving home on new tires. At rest there is a pencil's width of space between the liner and the tire, but I'm not sure how much movement there is of the tire in that direction with bumps and potholes. I'm thinking if I do need to relocate the harness I would need to move a significant portion of the wiring, possibly starting from the top of the wheel well. A couple more questions: !. The rubbing itself would be of the wiring/loom itself, which is being moved. Does the connector at the bottom of my picture end up being in a different location also? 2. When I was fiddling with it before, I had a bear of a time trying to pry the anchor with the attached zip tie out of the hole. How did you all do that, or did you end up cutting it? Thanks again! |

But I think the only ways to check is to roll down your window or a friend listening as you slowly drive by. As for me I pulled the wheel to check after my first drive. THen moved the connector in about 45 minutes.
