ZL1 switch from Z06
Looking for some advice here. so about 3 months ago i went from an 18 SS to a 16 Z06. zo6 has always been a dream car of mine. the intention with the car was to fully build the car and see how far i can take it. today the car is still stock and so far it has been a nightmare. constant issues with heat soak, fuel issues, and down on power. dynoed the car a week ago and i only put down 513 to the wheel. ive decided that im not going to risk fixing this thing and having it be an endless money pit where im constantly having to fix it. sucks because i already have FBO waiting to be put on. so with that in mind ive decided to cut my losses, here is where i need some advice. Do i go 2019 z06 and try again on this platform where supposedly the issues are sorted out or do i ago 2019 zl1 with A10. from those who have experience building these cars which is the better platform for the 1/4? tuner is saying to switch to zl1 and i kind of agree but i wanted to see what the people on the forum would have to say.

Put a 2650 on that Z06 and it will be dialed.

For sure. The ‘15 & ‘16 Z06 turn into monsters with a better blower, better intercooler coolant reservoir, and a decent tune.

Get the ZL1 and I think you will be happy with it!

I think the ZL1 chassis will better handle the extra power you are planning.

I assume you already did a compression and leak down test on the Z06, checked the plugs, maybe oil analysis etc. If not that will tell you if the motor is ok. But you’re right that heat soak is a big problem, was that on the track or just driving hard on street or during dyno testing? I don’t agree with other posters saying putting a 2650 on it will dial it in, more power means more heat and you already have a problem with that. If you bought the Z06 for its intended purpose, road course track driving, you will have serious overheat issues if you don’t get this sorted out before adding mods.
IMHO, get an un-modded ZL1 or 2019+ Z06 with a warranty. |

With 880 WHP I assume lap times would be 765S/GT2 level. I'm looking for a good track-worthy fuel solution to support this power level that would hold up under high G cornering, what fuel solution is your brother using on his 880 WHP Z06? |

Depending on where you are and what fuel you're using 513 might not be as low as you think. I dynoed 560 in winter on 93 octane here in Houston which is sea level. Heat soak is an issue sure, but is resolved with the proper cooling mods. If your intent was to mod the car it doesn't matter if it's a 15 or 19 Z06 or a ZL1. The LT4 will have heat soak issues regardless without proper cooling mods once you start spinning it harder. Also exactly what fueling issues are you having?
Also why would you think your engine is in danger of blowing up? The LT4s are stout and I don't see why it would just blow up stock at 55k miles. I don't see any purpose to you switching to a different car if your plan is to mod it anyway. |
