I drive my car year round in Denver with two exceptions:

1. when the roads are icy, and
2. when temps are below 30F

I might drive any sunny afternoon

I liked the PA4 I had on the car last year, as expected a little improvement in snow than an A/S that I had used previously; Comp2 A/S. Gave me a little more capability in snow, excellent in cold and wet, fun to drive in dry, I was extremely pleased with the PA4. Ive gone up to a studless snow/ice like the Xi3 which was excellent in snow/ice but it sucked to drive on the rest of the winter....mushy and squishy handling sucked.
PA4 gave me the right blend of fun to drive and a little snow worthiness.

I also run with 200lbs in the trunk, too.

That’s not Kelowna, that’s likely white star or some other overpriced resort town. You never mentioned anything about going to the mountains in your Camaro. But yeah whatever man, you are the first person to ask about winter tires, ever. Thanks for starting the topic that’s never been discussed. Judging by your posting history you like starting threads instead of searching for answers.

I went down 3 sizes to 225/60R17 for my Mosaic Black metallic RS because I refused to mount those fugly steel rims, and 20" snow tires are more than double the cost per tire compared with 17" or 18" wheels. Finding black hub-centric wheels (67.1 mm bore) with the right offset was almost an impossible task until I came across the FAST wheels pictured, so I got a set along with Blizzak WS-80s and black lugnuts. Fantastic grip in the snow, as some AWD SUVs with all season tires found out at stoplights.

Did not mount them last winter as the forecast was for a mild winter, which turned out to be correct. So they have 1 winter's use so far.

Just get a set of good snow tires (18”) and wheels and you’ll be fine , I live in northeast pa and never got stuck yet. I drove in the middle of the night to work when the roads weren’t even plowed yet and never had a problem even though it was only 3 miles.
But the point is don’t drive like a idiot. Even when there’s snow on the interstate people still do 80 in a 65 and shouldn’t even be doing 65.

I opted to go 19" wheel and put 245/45/19 Toyo Observe studded tires on them. We shall see how it goes

The West Coast (GVA+South Vancouver Island) is mostly snow-free outside of a week in February. As you go to the interior/up island, snow definitely becomes more common.

I mean, FFS, we have Whistler, where people go skiing and snowboard every year in winter. The comment you quoted is just silly.

Me? Last year, I managed to borrow a buddy's car for the winter, but this year, I am just running my own car and driving carefully in the wet. If it snows? The car's parked. Let the others enjoy the bumper car.

My 5th gen with those p-zeros was the absolute worst in the snow, anyone here from NY remember the blizzard we had in 2013 know exactly what I'm talking about. I just bought my 6th gen so it has not snowed here yet, however I have my Grand Cherokee to get me around in case its bad out.

These are proper Pirelli winter tires. All season equals not really good at anything.

For proper winter tires, personally, Nokian tires are great. Makes sense given their Scandinavian origin. Had them on a beater Honda Accord before and they cut through the snow great.

If I were to use a set of winters, however, I wouldn't use the stock SS 1LE size. On top of the cost, wider tires are actually disadvantageous in the snow or rain. Wider tires = greater contact patch = less pressure from the tires to the ground. Also, it takes more time for the snow/rain to escape the grooves on wider tires. I would personally run standard SS size (245 front and 275 rear) or even LT size (245 all around).

Having the car always look the same is important to me. More so than cost...

I've ran Sotozeros in five winters before. Its mostly wet roads here, or light snow coverage, so they work perfectly until the siping is worn off. These are what the Chevy engineers put on the Camaros during winter testing

Personally, I think it could be a good opportunity to shake up the look a bit with the standard SS wheels or LT1 wheels. That's what I did on my RX-8 before. The winter wheels are from the older models that look a bit more mundane, but that's not a bad thing in winter. And heh, you are getting better winter traction with the narrower tires and wheels, so it's not just about being cheap. That's just a side bonus.

I have to say, Nokian isn't the best in the rain. They are more designed for snow. On the other hand, Michelin Crossclimate (which is an all-weather tire) I had before is more oriented towards rain. I just checked the size chart and they have 245/40/R20 which is LT wheel size so that would be what I go with hypothetically. Different winter tires do excel in different settings, so I can see why one should adjust their choice based on the climate they see.

Road salt and my Camaro have never met.

The Camaro is already in hibernation for the next 6 months.
