Lifter debate?
I am in process of getting stuff together for my LT4 SC swap onto my LT1. I am putting in an LT5 camshaft to get rid of the AFM and was looking at new lifters and hear sooooo many different opinions. I found a full set of cadillac racing lifters for $100 so i bought them but i hear things about lifter noise.I was also considering the morel 5290 or johnson 2110. Not going to be racing it's mainly for peace of mind and I have to swap lifters anyways. Any thoughts on the caddy lifters, I heard they were made by johnson anyways?

Fancy lifters for OE lobes? Why not just the oe non afm lifters? I’m thinking the caddy lifters are overkill, so ur prob ok.

Caddy lifters for 100.00 is a deal and should be fine. I would verify pushrod length because not all lifters are the same length across different brands.
Let us know how the LT5 cam works out.

I know the caddy lifters are overkill since i won't be spinning 8000 rpm but for the price. I just wanna make sure they aren't detrimental and are reliable.

From what I have seen the LT5 cam is exactly the same specs as the LT1 cam but has more fueling. The LT4 cam is actually smaller than the LT1/LT5 but the lt4 is AFM so thats why i decided on the LT5 cam

Yes I am aware of that...I have actually mentioned the LT5 cam to others before as a option to delete AFM on the cheap because it can be had for under 200.00.
What I was never able to find was the fuel lobe specs. If it has a bit larger fuel lobe then I may consider installing one along with some drop-in pistons/rods down the road. I like sleepers....

I doubt the lt5 cam has a significantly larger fuel lobe especially since it has port injection stock with di. Everything I have read on the corvette forum points to same lobe as lt4, not to mention lt5 uses same hpfp as lt4 and lt5 does not have a lash cap, so you are getting the same lift on the fuel pump that the lt4 lobe provides. Cam swap is a lot of work on this car, I would consider getting a different cam so you don't have to re-install when you need more fuel.

You wouldn't "have" to change cams. Can always go Port Injection if need be.

It would be great if u could measure both fuel lobes on base circle and peak so we could try to get some idea on the difference.
I’ve also seen theories that just changing to the “same” cam to remove the afm lifters to the lighter normal lifters could yield slightly more power

Not too savvy on the lt5 but guessing it uses one pump, same hpfp as lt4? L measure it when i get it but 750 hp i would think its larger even with DI and PI it still needs more fuel than an lt4. So i paid $120 for this cam, what others would you recommens? Can't go crazy on hp but if i got close to stock zl1 i would be happy. I am shooting for 7psi boost but woth the cam being larger than lt4 650hp i think is reasonable, especially on e85

Either way after installing SC it is more likely someone wants more power at some point. |

I'd talk to your tuner or hit up cam motion with build and goals. You could always stay with what you have and see good results but wouldn't hurt to do the extra work to confirm. Pretty certain lt4 and lt5 use same hpfp, you can confirm on a GM parts website. I was running a 2.6" pulley on Lt4 supercharger with lt4 fueling along with btr stage 2 +38% fuel lobe, 2" headers it was 7-8psi depending on weather. Good combo for street stuff and didn't see iat issues, was able to run 40-50% ethanol before low pressure died off. |
