Thanks for checking in, Joe.
Just got a call from the dealer that it should be here within the week and that he was calling to let me know that they would be charging a 10K markup even though it was agreed there wouldn’t be any. Apparently I gotta tell them by the end of the day if I agree with it or they’ll sell it to the next person.
Is the dealer in capacity to follow such practice?

Unless you have a signed agreement that's legally binding, they can charge you whatever they want - but it's very very shady of them to do it, especially at the last minute like this. Personally, I'd tell them to go to hell just on principal.

Hello,
Did you signed a contract that reflect total price including fees and taxes? If yes, the dealership has to give you a notice of cancellation and wait several days for your input. Then, they can cancel the contract and sell the car to somebody else. They can't give you a few hours notice.

Wow. I made sure to get my agreed upon price in writing when I ordered however that shouldn't be necessary with a reputable dealer that isn't out to screw people over. Especially individuals that have been waiting this long.

Sadly i do not. Put a little too much faith in "The biggest chevy dealership in Austin". The salesman who called even pointed it out saying even though we agreed on the MSRP there will be a 10K markup on ZL1's and 30K on C8's.
I'm genuinely heartbroken.

The entire transaction was over the phone and email. They sent me the build, i approved, agreed terms on the phone, emailed them the details for my credit card for a $1000 deposit and i had my order number a couple of days later. Until this morning i was just hyped that im finally getting my dream car within a week. Not so much anymore.

TheTexanPunjabi, you may want to check with the sales manager and make sure this is the policy of the dealership and not some scumbag salesman trying to make a quick buck.

Don't give up just yet, not now when your car is around the corner. As Aquarius suggested above, try to escalate to upper management. They may understand that making $10K now by screwing you over is a much worse deal longer term than having a faithful customer who will probably use their service department, give positive word of mouth and may buy more cars/trucks from them. You can also leave scathing reviews about their business practices.

I agree with Arpad on this.. you need to push a little harder and talk to the decision makers. That may not help, but at least you tried.

I have a second idea, which most people wouldn’t have the stomach for. Do you have any type of email (it sounds like you may) that denotes the cost of the car and the price you agreed to? If you do, I’d tell them you’re considering calling “xyz” news station to tell your story and they have 1hr to get back to YOU. The fact that they made “what seems like “ a good faith deal and are willing to turn their back on you, pressure you for another 10K, is just hard for me to swallow. If the extra sum was agreed to upfront, verbally, by email etc. a totally different matter.

Good luck, I really hope this works out for you.

Print out any emails where they agreed to MSRP and confirmation that they took your deposit. Anything where they say, we’re going to order this specific Camaro. Order #xyz123 and will sell it to you for $xx,xxx. That qualifies as a legally binding contract. Not as strong as a fully signed and executed contract in proper legalese, but still binding on both parties, particularly since you made a deposit.

They “offered” your build at MSRP, you provided a deposit as “consideration” for that offer. Tell them to honor the agreement or you will file in small claims court. A legal contract, even when only verbal, must include and “offer” and “consideration”, which sounds like is satisfied in your case. Pay for an hour with a contract law attorney if you need to, to verify any TX Law concerns, but you are in a strong position here.

This sounds like a classic case that most likely after the Camaro got built, it showed up on your dealer's site as in transit and someone most likely called that dealership up and told them they would pay well over your agreed amount with the dealer and make that salesperson's day.

Go through Joe if you want your dream to become a reality without the possibility of BS like this! Don't bow down to scummy sales people that are out for their own best interest instead of yours.

I won't lie, I got a little worried about the off chance that the same would have happened to me because my particular Camaro had 100%+ more viewership on the dealer site than the other 10 or so Camaros, including SS and ZL1 models. I had this gut wrenching feeling that someone was going to put an offer in over asking price when the view count just kept going up every single day, by the time it arrive it was near 120 views. My salesperson however turned out to be one of the good ones and kept up their end of the bargain.
