Not true in my ‘21 ZL1. I can switch to the map anytime.

Besides, why would you trust any of them? GPS is based on the shape of the world being a sphere, I doubt it works properly for the flat world you think you live on. Surely a paper map is closer to what you believe in.
There is offline maps. I download the map data for my area so even when I don't have cell signal I can use the maps on my phone.

My preference is on board NAV but if you live in area with a lot of growth you will need to pay for the regular updates. For example went to a new golf course last weekend that is not in my cars NAV so we got to the town and used our phone for the final 10 minutes.

I can use my phone to look up an address and just send that to my car ahead of time. Which I could have done with above example.

Also I am amused that a flat earthier is participating in a discussion that involves satellites that ORBIT AROUND the Earth. That would result in thousands of people that could confirm the Earth is flat and satellites don’t actually orbit but just fly around over a flat surface. Literally thousands that know the “truth” but maintain their work every single day.

I have Nav in my 17 and do not like it at all. To me it was more difficult to use than Android Auto and Google Maps and I didn't care for the look of it on the display. The ability to get the directions in the HUD was nice, but it wasn't nice enough for me to continue using it. Like others have said, if I'm taking a trip away from the local area, I download the maps for that route and area before I leave. I've never had an issue with it not working when there is no cell service in the mountains or other areas. I think the big thing you lose without cell service is the traffic info along your route.

Ultimately, I think it's personal preference, but it definitely would not be a deal breaker for me if the car didn't have it.

In any event, my original comment was somewhat overstated - obviously AA itself wouldn't completely stop functioning, I just meant you lose the ability to get updated information when there is no coverage.
Position continues to update, the phone should switch to using solely the GPS instead of using GPS and Cell when you have signal.

Oh and one other benefit to having on board NAV is it usually has the bigger monitor so if you use Car Play, you get the phone NAV and map on the bigger monitor, which is a bonus for me.

But AA is also known to be glitchy from time to time. I already had the factory nav back me up on a trip where Waze showed me stationary and wasn't updating my location. Score 1 point for factory nav.

Yes, like pretty much every other factory option, it is overpriced. But its price to utility ratio is not that far off from the other options, and since I don't carry a stack of road maps in the door pocket anymore, it is nice having a backup nav option wherever I am at.

Factory NAV not worth it - HD radio is.

The factory Bose stereo in the 2020 Camaro is absolute trash.
2020 didn't offer HD Radio. Period.

I was today years old when I learned that modern smartphones have actual GPS chips, and have for years.

I admittedly don't keep up w/ phone technology - my current phone is over 5 years old, and the one before that was about the same when I replaced it. I've had a dedicated nav device or in-car nav for all of that time, so I never relied on my phone for navigation and made some bad assumptions, namely that location services worked off of cell towers.

Thank you for making me spend the time to do some internet research on it!

I can also use points of interest or set destination while driving.

That reminded me of another improvement in my 2020 over my 2016 and 2018. The voice command works while driving now. I had to be stopped in the old Camaros for it to be able to understand

Given that my 19 doesn't have wireless CP/AA, and the HUD integration, I'd say I like mine.

Wireless CP/AA now could change things, so it boils down to if the HUD integration is important to you.

I have a 2021 2SS with the Nav and be aware that your free trial is 1 month. After that you have to pay for this as well as the use of the app on your cell phone. Seems way too pricey for a car that stickered for over $51K. As a result I just use the cell phone app on my Iphone along with Apple Car Play.
