Headers
Thinking about getting some long tube headers for the maro and was wondering if anybody had any problems doing that certain bolt and how many miles have you had it since then Ik you have to get a tune definitely but I’m just worried a bit if drivability would be a issue in the long run

I installed 2” CSP headers with the GESI high flow cats. Not cheap but install was extremely easy with no issues. Sounds awesome as well with stock NPP.
However I installed MSD intake, rotofab ported throttle body (the works) along with converting to E85 at the same time…. If I was doing one mod I would start with E85. Headers alone without anything else aren’t going to get you much other then more volume, but that could be done with a cat back and not void your warranty….

IMO, what ever headers your planning get the price and decide if that amount would be better off with other mods. Long tubes are great, but the shorty Y headers/exhaust manifolds that come stock are pretty good. You could do LT2 manifold , TB, E85, free flowing mufflers, get rid of stock suit case muffler, and a tune for the price of just headers and your gains would be way more then getting an expensive set of headers. But if your after sound then get just the headers, TSP headers are cheap around $600 and they are fine. Ceramic coat them. (TSP Headers comes with a special bolt (1) to clear the stirring wheel column bar.)

Definite increase in sound in all modes with the stock NPP muffler. Only gained 10 peak HP. But the headers really extended the RPM range; HP and TQ don't drop until a good bit higher. In that area, the HP/TQ improvement is at leat 50 HP/TQ. I was already tuned for 93 octane and E85, so my tuner just had to adjust the tune a bit. |

I would do the longtubes after you do Intake manifold w/tb, flex fuel sensor, etc.
I personally did a rear brake kit and drag pack first(my goal could vary from yours). From there I did a hi ram w/tb, flexfuel sensor, then longtubes. After that I did my own OTR setup. I made 399rwhp stock, 424rw with the hi ram and stock 95mm Tb, then tuned it for the flexfuel the same day and made 450rw, added the longtubes a couple of weeks later and made 474rwhp. Threw the OTR on and didn’t make anymore power due to it being a ramair type setup, so the gains won’t be seen on the dyno.

This graph is the final numbers after Kooks headers. I just realized that I actually lost 8 peak torque but gained about 27 peak HP. Kind of hard to see what's going on but if you look at about 6500 RPM on both graphs at the 93 octane tune, HP is about 360 before headers but 410 after headers. Torque at 6500 before is 285 and after headers is about 330. It is at about 5000 RPM and above where the HP and TQ are extended with headers. I was really surprised the gains in that area were that good. We did not bother to retune with E85 as it wasn't necessary. I would expect peak HP/TQ would have been about 450 with a similar extension of power and torque above 5000. Last edited by Spaceme1117; 11-05-2021 at 05:42 AM. |

Great to see the graphs here. That helps us see where the money goes for sure. Thank you for adding those
