People need to get over the whole weight thing. Cars today with all the features and options they have are not gonna weigh 3200 pounds. No weigh (pun intended) no how. They have to make these cars somewhat comfortable for a decent range folks with a wider range of height and weight. They have to give it enough reasonable storage. And the suspension has to be tough. As well as the fact that the people who ca afford these cars still want heated seats, a radio with a huge display, and all sorts of other options. At best you're gonna see 3800 pounds and a cabin as tight as a Vette. Under normal circumstances you'll see 4000 pounds and a tight figure like the ZL1...and people will complain that they can't see out of it. On the other end of the spectrum will be 4400 pound porkers like the Hellcat and GT500 and people will complain that they're too heavy. But then remove the options and make it light like they did with the 5th Gen Z28 and it ain't gonna sell. So it is what it is. Cars are going to be a decent size and weight. |

Very impressed, especially given the price point. I need to free up some time to figure out how to get one ordered, or at least get on a legitimate list. I haven't had good luck with dealers locally...was explicitly told by one that in order for me to be taken care of (put on a real list for the Z06) I would need to buy a C8 he had available at like a 50% markup. Had to laugh at that one.

More then slightly...C6Z's were around 3100lbs. The Z07 package was under 3100. Hence why a H/C C6Z making around 600whp NA is still a force to reckon with. The C7Z M7 jumped up 400lb and even more with the A8.

The weight has been jumping around, the C6Z and C5Z were considerably lighter if I recall. The C7Z jumped up a good bit and the C8Z is slightly heavier still but still lighter than a ZL1.

I have driven a C8 vert (about 400 miles) as I found one for a buddy and brought it to him after a pit stop in my shop for a couple of days. In general, I'm a Camaro guy but own a Hellcat Challenger, SRT8 Charger and a SL550R AMG. I ride in and drive all kinds of cars and I was so impressed with that C8 Corvette that I'm getting in line for a Z06! That C8 drove and handled nothing like any Corvette I've ever been in. My '22 ZLE with a M6 is still backordered so I plan to get on the Z06 list and wait a couple of years if necessary. Hope it all works out. Bowtie Pastya!

Another reason cars are heavier is big government, and the insurance companies. Crash protection, airbags, anti-theft devices, GPS tracking, and all of the computers to regulate that stuff. Personally, I do like the airbags and crash protection stuff.
18 way, adjustable, heated and air conditioned, power seats are heavy. Shatter free window glass is heavy. Heavy duty suspensions are heavy. Also, gigantic wheels and tires are heavy. My C5 ZO6 had 17" front wheels and 18" rear wheels. It had 2 piston caliper brakes in the front and single piston in the rear. In SCCA racing, we had to change pads and rotors every race weekend. Calipers may have lasted a season, but usually not. Now, with 20" and 21" wheels, the brakes are huge, and very heavy, but will last much longer and are more consistent. Racing improves the breed, but at the expense of weight. The large-size carbon fiber brakes are nice and light, but very expensive. If you race, and there's not a minimum weight to worry about, then the carbon fiber wheels and brakes are the way to go. But the non-ZO7 Vette will not have the carbon wheels or brakes, unless those can be ordered as a stand-alone option. And so, it will be heavier. Light weight is always better for performance. But I want a safe car. I want brakes that can take some lapping and not get soft. I want a comfortable seat. I want window glass that can take a chip or two. So, is 3800 pounds heavy? Maybe a little, but I'll take the weight if it's there for a good reason. |

I have to agree with you. With airbags, all the computers, the wiring, comfy seats that are heated and cooled, well it just all ads up.

Put the $2k down at Ciocca Corvette to get on the reservation list for the Z06. Will find out next week where I fall on the list. Expecting probably 2023/2024.......at which point my beloved ZLE will have to go......
