Congrats and welcome to the addiction. This chassis is so good on track even in stock form.

Glad you had fun in the V6 1LE! Just be prepared that you will be craving for more.

Your "driver mods before car mods" mindset is great. I fully agree with that mentality and that's what I was working on this summer.

At some point, it helps to attend an HPDE so you have a better idea of what you are doing.

Autocross is another fun thing you could do with a V6 1LE. As others said, V6 1LE is lighter than the V8 models and power doesn't quite matter as much at Autocross, so that's something worth considering.

You're toting around about 300 pounds LESS than the SS folks, and even more than the ZL1. My guess is the 245/275 tire sizes and brand you have are fine for now. Seat time is best. Track alignment probably will help at some point as well. if your addiction deepens enough, you will get into the tire options then. Have fun, be safe and keep it on the black stuff! just my opinion, fwiw.
I would bump the tires up to the Supercar 3 SS 1LE and ZL1 use if the car sees somewhat regular track usage and you don't want another set of rims, but yeah, looks like V6 1LE is still a pretty capable car stock otherwise. The lower torque also helps keep you out of trouble. Ask me how I know.

I get roughly 140 miles per track per day and have never burned any oil and I push the engine. I don't have the 1LE package, wish I did but I still say there is nothing anywhere that says to add a quart of oil to the LGX. Maybe it burns 1/2 quart because it's overfilled. I know the LTs say to add .9 quarts but they run 11 quarts not the 5.5 or 6 the LGX does.

Incorrect. For LS/LT trims Chevrolet recommends adding .9L (1.0 qt) of oil if you have the 1LE package. LS/LT trims encompass both the 2.0L turbo 4 cylinder LTG and the 3.6L V6 LGX motors depending on the year. My 2018 LT trim has a V6 LGX motor with a 6.0L oil capacity since I have auxiliary cooler supplied with the 1LE package and per pg. 15 of the attached performance supplement they recommend I overfill.

Note that this does not apply to non-1LE cars so in your case they are not recommending an overfill. But if I were tracking a standard V6 with either suspension mods and/or stickier tires I would probably consider it.

Glad to see you made it out to the track! I was in your same exact position a year ago getting bit by the track day bug. The track alignment is a good middle ground for a daily driver and shouldn't affect tire wear (meaning you don't have to re-align before and after track days). If you end up doing way more track days, consider going even more aggressive than the track alignment in terms of negative camber. I'm running -2.4 degrees on the front and -1.5 degrees in the rear which is maxed out on the stock hardware and I still wear out the outer shoulders on my tires way before the inner shoulders on both front and rear but I am still playing with pressures as well. The compromise is my car tramlines much more with that alignment especially with the track tires on when driving to the track.

Yeah less weight can't hurt in the corners for sure. Budget constraints will likely keep me from becoming a complete track rat but I won't rule it out! The stock tires did a really good job once warmed up, but once they wear out I may switch to something different (and maybe not run-flat).

Thanks! Agreed, it seems to be an extremely neutral-balanced chassis. It rotates great but never got squirrely.

This event was an HPDE and I had an instructor with me most of the day till they cut me loose. Definitely learned a TON! I used to autocross a ton back in the day when I had Subarus, and I definitely plan on seeing how the Camaro does in one. My lower power definitely helped with being "smooth" coming out of the corners - I could just mash the gas and rely on the relatively low torque haha!

I'll take a look at the Supercar 3s for sure, thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the info! wilbur_xmas is right that the manual says only to do this for the 1LE. I assume it has something to do with either/both of the oil cooler and higher factory grip setup. You definitely don't need to for the non-1LE V6 per the manual. Certainly easier that way!

Very interesting to hear! I've tried to find info on track alignment's effects on normal driving/tire wear but most of those threads are about the SS 1LE. Perhaps next spring I'll look into getting the "default" track alignment and see how it goes. I certainly won't be getting the full expected mileage out of the tires either way.

Also thanks again for your posts on my other threads related to track-prepping the car. You've been extremely helpful!

My experience with my old bmw 128i with -2 degrees camber and 0 toe on the front, was it's wasn't a major factor in tire wear over 60k miles of driving on street tires. The effect of camber on the tread could be seen very gradual from the inside to the out side.
With my Camaro i've started doing my own alignments for the track season. It went well for two season, but now the outer tie rod is stuck! And i have the front with -2.6 camber. So unless i get time to sort it out.... i'm finding out what the wear is like

Camber will cause slight uneven wear throughout the life of the tire. (hardly noticeable).

TOE is what accelerates uneven wear in a tire.
