I'd look for a comparably used SS, personally, but either way I'd definitely upgrade to a V8. I know the LT1's are V8s, but a part of me would hate knowing I looked like a base model V6 with the base interior :/ I know, I know..

More LT1 info here: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=572153 And here: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=577077 Solid choice. And the awesome TR6060 along with SS handling puts a grin on your face every time you push the start button. You will need better rear tires though. Keep TC on with the stock setup. But SS tire wheel set ups are a dime a dozen. With that you have a winter and summer setup. PM me if you need more info.

What is your car currently worth and what is the MSRP of the LT1? Is it really a $11k gap? Seems too much to me.

I agree the lt1 is the best performance value on planet.I like my v6 but the suspension is a little soft. The front end links are plastic. The lt1 ss suspension should be better. The tranny and clutch action should be much better.I like the seats.I don't like 1le seats. I sat in one.The 3.6 is nice and gets 25 -26 mpg on 87.I can say that because I haven't driven a 6.2. I paid 28k out door for my v6 manual January 2.Then a lt1 was 33k + taxes and fees. The place I got mine had one in shock for 33k.I could not live with that color. Now I cannot find a lt1 for less than 36k. Dealers give 26-28k for mine.

To me it sounds like you're very lucky to be finding LT1s under MSRP. In my area, the ones here were often asking ABOVE MSRP and I was happy to pay "only" MSRP for mine last month.

Most dealers are asking 4k over msrp.Middle of September dealer wanted 14 k and my car. September 28 dealer told 11k and my car out door. I don't know if 14k deal was out door or not, either way it was to much. I told him deal I'll be their friday. They called me Thursday ,it sold.If they have one sitting in future and will sell for my offer they will call me. Yes ,you are fortunate to get one for msrp.

I drive a 2014 RS with a cold air intake as my daily driver. I love the gas mileage in that car. I get 35mpg highway using midgrade gas. Putting on that many miles on in a year, I would keep the RS and pay it off asap then order your LT1. I did however order a 2SS-1LE and can't wait for that baby to come home. Why not drive both? You only live once!! It's only money, you'll make more!!

Everything is a little crazy now.More demand than supply. The beginnings of socialism? I hope not. A lot of good ideas given all much appreciated.

the 24,000 a year is nuts, if its mostly hwy miles the V8 is not much different from the V6 on fuel consumption.
On a road trip I averaged nearly 30MPG in my LT1. Around town though, 13-14 MPG is realistic, she is thirsty. |

Can't think of another vehicle I would want to drive 24k miles a year more than a gen6 camaro.

I'm going to take a different position here: I currently own a number of Camaros, three V-8s, from a stock 350 small block that is original to my 1973 Z-28, an LS1, all the way up to a 468 bb monster in my Baldwin Motion clone. So, I think I have the V-8 side covered pretty well. My fourth Camaro is a V6 LT2 1LE, and she is a blast to drive. For the type of recreational driving I do (corner carving on the backroads of central Florida), the horsepower is more than sufficient. While she makes less stated HP then my stock 2002 SS, she feels quicker and more responsive then that car. I purchased her as a 3 year old CPO with 206 total miles (so, near new), and have put 1,600+ fun miles on her since. She sounds good, drives great, accelerates well, and ultimately, is a great vehicle. The only thing she is really missing is the Magnaride option, and of course, the V-8.
She retailed for just under $42k MSRP when new, and I got her for $31k (with 206 miles) earlier this summer at the height of the Used Car craziness. She is optioned EXACLTY how I would want her, including a PDR. For me to go up to a comparable V8 model with all the built in LT2 tech goodies, I would have to move up to a 2SS, which with the 1LE package, PDR, and the rest would bring me to $53k for GM Supplier pricing. I had a dealer offer me $32k for her a few weeks ago, so I can get out of the car at near break-even, but the question for me is, is the Magnaride suspension and V-8 worth the extra $21k+. And to me, they are not. I'd rather save that money and put it toward another vintage Camaro for the garage. Also, the 2SS 1LE would come with the Recaros standard, which for my middle-age, non-petite frame, is a no-go. So, like most folks, it comes down to what you want, what you value, and what your long term goals are. If you are only going to have one car, and if the $11k jump is justified for you, go for it! It's your money, do what will bring you the most enjoyment. I had a similar choice, and I'm content with my little V-6, she is perfect for what I want. The beauty of this country is we (still, for now) get to have the freedom to exercise the choice that is best for us. |
