Red Line 75W90 GL-5 Gear Oil
I am having a shop prep my ZL1 for a track day. since the car will already be worked on, I asked for a differential fluid change and they noted on their estimate...
Red Line 75W90 GL-5 Gear Oil Obviously, I know the Red Line brand,...but I know throughout this forum that people insist to use the OEM AC Delco which I understand. Just curious if anyone has tried this and if there were any thoughts, good or bad....thanks |

Amsoil Severe Gear is #1 based on standardized tests I've seen

I've only used it in my 892whp Hellcat but it performed just fine for over 3 years.

Thanks...I figured Red Line would be fine. I have used it in many vehicles previously, but when searching in this forum people always direct you to use OEM. It's odd because aftermarket is typically more expensive than OEM, but not in this case.

I would think most aftermarket fluids would be better, but if you read through the threads in this forum they mostly advocate OEM. If aftermarket fluids were not atleast as good (if not better) than OEM, I would think they would be out of business...

They are better, no question - but it's "OEM or your car will blow up, warranty voided, etc etc" type dogma parroted by ignorant people - the science is irrefutable (standardized testing, and to lesser extent, UOAs)
Same with oil filters |

I do recall that when I mentioned that I use Motul Gear 300 LS in my eLSD, a bunch of people told me not to. I personally don't have any issues with the fluid, and I do take mine to the track.
The only reason I can think of is maybe some are concerned if there is enough limited slip additive in some of the aftermarket fluids, but as long as you get something designed for clutch-based LSD, then they should have enough additive in it to prevent any issues. It looks like Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 will work, though I personally do not feel like messing with adding their Slip Lock additive(how much to add, if I need it at all, etc.) when I can just buy Motul Gear 300 LS and it's already got the additives in it. Same with Red Line Gear Oil, it already has the friction modifier in it.
