Well that sucks. Sorry for your loss, OP.
Best way to move forward is to ask the dealer what they'll do for you, since they sold you the car (probably not knowing that it was) tuned. Maybe they'll work with you. Whether they knew or not, they'll be more likely to work with you if you don't go full lawyer-hostile on them right away. If they won't work with you, then get a second opinion on the repair from a reputable local Chevy shop. Yeah you'll probably have to pay both a few hundred for a diagnosis, but at least you'll have options. Good luck. |

I think that we've seen this once or twice recently, buying a used car that they find out later had been tuned when something catastrophic happened to the new owner. Unsure how that eventually played out.
Used car buyers should be taking note and having that addressed during the buy. |

So I am assuming that the used dealership you bought it from is not a GM dealer. Which I think is going to be a sticking point for GM. Hopefully the used car dealership honors something and helps you out but at this point I think GM is out of the picture, they make it very clear that mods of the ECU are grounds to dismiss warranty. |

Just had a buddy go thru this at work. He bought a wrx with a stage 2 kit. They tried to smog the car after he bought it and low and behold won't pass. According to California law its on the seller to make sure the car is smog legal. The dealership he bought it from had to add cats and some other stuff to get it to pass smog. Hopefully they can trace when the ecu was modified, which sounds like they're trying to do, and will take care of you when it's figured out. |

the dealer will deny warranty if the car has ever been tuned, whether put back to stock or not. Please tell me you are joking...

At this point do nothing until they tell you the outcome. Once, if, the selling dealership denies any coverage ask the current dealership for stamp on ECU modding stamp. Then I would approach the selling dealership one last time prior to contacting a lawyer. After that game on!
