295 tires on rear SS 1LE stock rim ?

Has anyone tried to fit 295s on the stock SS 1LE rims (rear) ?
stock tire is 305, I don't know the OEM rim width but hoping to save a few $$ by installing 295s. Thanks !

They'll fit but what are you really going to save? $5 a tire???

I would stick with the stock tire size...

I found out on tire rack that the P4S is 100$ per tire cheaper on 295 vs 305. it's my street set so I don't care about the marginal loss of grip.

My question is similar to SS Cap. What is your game plan here? 1LE comes with wider rims so you can fit wider, gripper tires. Dropping 10mm won’t help you much on cost. If these tires are too expensive, and you don’t track, why not swap for narrower 18 or 19” wheels and run 255’s all around? That’s where the cost saving is.

I'm pretty sure that's a popularity thing and not much to do with the tire size.

Here's an unorthodox suggestion, why not go up to 315 instead? It's only $45 per tire more than the 295s and gives you ~3% more sidewall and dynamic contact patch area.

I was gonna say this, too. This would save a lot more money and they are essentially the equal in performance to the Michelin PS4.

If that's the case I see your point.

Ive run as my winter tire on the rear 285/35 without an issue, 295 should be good to go

Looking at Michelin PS4S 295/30/20 vs 305/30/20, there's about a $90 difference.
Section width is 0.4" wider
Tread width is 0.1" wider
Diameter is 0.2" taller

The tires were tested on different width wheels (10.5" vs 11"). If you're not insecure about what numbers are on the side of your tire, saving the $180 is quite tempting.

I don't disagree. At Tire Rack right now the PS4 in 305 is $473 whereas the 295 is $382. I'm just saying their prices on the Conti EC Sports are $411 and $331, respectively. In the front size (285/30/20), the Conti is $310 vs the Michelin at $375. So for a set of four, you'd still save money by getting Contis in the exact OE sizes vs the Michelin in 285/295 sizes. Or you could get Contis in 285/295 and save even more:
  • Michelin 285/305: $1696
  • Michelin 285/295: $1514
  • Conti 285/305: $1442
  • Conti 285/305: $1282

So if you want a top-tier summer street tire but money is an object, it's pretty clear that you need to stay away from Michelin altogether.

Thanks all, ended up buying the P4S all season in 305, supposedly the same tire as C8 base.
They were on sale - Will let you know how they feel.

They are on the base C8, and they are pretty much the latest and greatest performance all-season. They are almost surely the fastest of the performance all-seasons in the dry, and I'm sure they are at least mid-pack among them in the wet and snow. Do let us know your impressions after you drive on them a bit.
