Dealer says fuse box needs to be replaced

So my car completely died on Sunday while driving and nothing worked. Had the car towed to the dealer and they found a 30amp fuse blown in fuse box in the trunk. Just that one fuse rendered the car a paper weight. Absolutely nothing worked. With that fuse changed they got the car running again but wanted to investigate what the fuse blew. After some diagnosis they had the fuse blow again and determined that the entire fuse box needs replacing. Shit part now is that box has to come from somewhere in the US and could take 2 weeks to get the part.

Has this happened to anyone else?

For context this is a 2018 sle with 15000km (9300miles)

this sounds rather odd.when you look at the box does it look rusted/water damaged?

I’ve never seen the fuse box personally

This happened to me but it was an obvious reason. After installing long tube headers, I did a piss poor job on reinstalling the starter positive cable, which came loose and damaged the fuse box.

It does have a series of large fuses that are part of the fuse box assembly itself. If one of those is blown, you need to replace the unit indeed, so their diagnosis may well have been correct. Parts shortage sucks, too

Call it what it is, a piss poor design and all the cheap ass manufacturers are using it.

When you can't replace fuses and relays because they are built into a fuse box, someone needs their ass kicked.

Originally they had said the starter may have been the cause but then determined it was the fuse box instead

Bright side is that the fuse box is only something like 150 bucks and few hundred labour just the down time in the heart of a very short Canadian summer really blows

So which fuse was it? It might indicate on the service record.

Overall, this sounds like it might be a problem from water intrusion in the trunk and corrosion of connectors. Did you even take a look?

I've heard issues of water infiltration causing the fuse panel to go bad on 6th gens before.

Wow. Still figuring out how to build a trouble-free/maintenance free fuse box...lol...

With the all electric EV future just ahead, what could go wrong?...lol

On a boat ,you put a gasket on it and bolt it closed. I'm not sure why the same strategy would not work for cars. What fraction of car buyers actually changes an automotive fuse or relay anymore? 0.00001%? And that is the same fraction who already own enough tools to open a sealed fusebox.

It is all about cost. Why add cost to each vehicle when only a fraction of a percentage will have a problem.
