Doesn't look like a real location. Looks like a diorama.

Yea there is something off about the environment of the picture. Something unnatural about the rocks, just looking at it as a geologist it just doesn't seem real. The imitated layering in the rock doesn't change color and thats a issue for me. It's totally plausible it could be real but I think the model/animation theory has something too it.

There are a few good artist like ŠKODA and Bennet that do this little scenes that look pretty real!

my guess is model. skidmarks don't seem to indicate car would be sitting there and no antifreeze anywhere.

I don't think so, the color variations should be easy to spot no matter the time of day. Besides the rocks in the picture give more of a conglomerate mass wasting deposited rock type. Most of the rock types of the southwest are crossbedded and laminar small grained in structure. This doesn't mean that local variations of rocks aren't possible but I don't think its very representative of the area. This type of rock gives more of a Utah, New Mexico possibility than Colorado since Colorado doesn't have as much red sandstone. And most people consider the Rocky Mountains to be in Colorado. New Mexico and Utah has massive red sandstones but they aren't really considered the Rocky Mountains as these states have smaller mountain ranges but are mostly just erosional canyons (The sign doesn't fit this environment).
