I've had a 60+ year old woman ask me if it was a Hellcat when I parked it and got out.
No it's not (ok, maybe 1%). Anyone shopping in this category of cars is aware of Camaro (as for the ZL1 - it's just a tiny subset in terms of sales, and if you are into high-powered sports cars you are likely an enthusiast and know or will find out what is on the market as options). Your 60 year old woman point is irrelevant. She's not in the possible buyer pool so her ignorance doesn't matter. Personally, I never see a Mustang commercial - so, their sales should be dismal as well. I have to imagine a lot of people cross shop the pony cars (not everyone is fanatically brand loyal), and I suspect there are a good number of people that sit in the camaro and find the visibility to be absurd (utterly unable to see over your right shoulder) and decide to go with a mustang or a challenger for that reason alone.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion. Which Camaro, Mustang or Charger/Challenger do you own?

I can only speak for myself of course, but I drove both a new ‘18 Mustang GT A10 before driving my car and buying it. I didn’t notice any marked difference in visibility at all. When you drive these cars I feel like you’re much more focused on the experience: power, handling, style, creature comforts, etc. The visibility discussion is being blown out of proportion IMO.

What is out of sight is out of mind, so GM abandoning the Camaro in terms of marketing is definitely hurting them. Case in point: one of the girls at my work had to ask me what my Camaro was when she saw it. She knew my coworkers Mustang immediately.

Exactly, I was expecting much worse visibility in my ZL1 than what I had in my Hellcat. Is it worse? Sure, a little, but nothing like its made out to be by some people. GM had great success with the 4th gen F-Body initially, they marketed it and people bought them in droves, outselling the Mustang for a few years, then they stopped marketing it and the F-Body died. Then GM brought the Camaro back again in the 5th Gen and marketed it again, and sales took off and outsold the Mustang again, then they stopped marketing it and sales slumped. I don't think the 6th Gen has been marketed at all and its the best Camaro yet.

I had a girl who worked at Zaxbys tell me she loved my ZL1 when I was in the drive thru. She only saw it when I pulled up to the window to pay and get my food. She wasn't even the one helping me.

Camaro sales always suck. Nothing new. We obviously don't need 750 HP because along with that comes a whole bunch of other things like added costs, higher prices, on top of more government restrictions. GM has never advertised the Camaro well and they don't appear to be about to start doing it now. It doesn't matter because what they do sell obviously is enough to justify the continued production of the car. We don't need to talk about this all day every day and repeat the same thing over and over and over and over again. Give it a rest already.
It's the nature of internet auto forums. It's always been that way. It's not unlike the cable news channels. They repeat the same things over and over 24 hours a day on the off chance someone who has not been paying attention to them tunes in. Instead of railing about this happening on this forum, when you see it happening, just refuse to engage. Just a thought.

I had one person ask me if my ZL1 was the new C8 Corvette. Most people don't have a clue.

I recall each of these cars had limited production numbers and the reason was to help Holden plants.

But you’re right, they’re all gone now.

I’d bet a case of frosty beverages that if you polled 100 random women, less than 2 would know what a ZL1 was. I would guess double to triple that would know what a Hellcat is.

I’m happy to be proven wrong if I get to share the beverages.

At a Chevy dealer in LA, a Corvette owner I met said on first sight he thought my Hyper Blue ZLE was a Corvette.

I think with unique features like the big CF wing, hood wrap and big dive planes the ZLE just creates a visual impression that confuses car enthusiasts who aren't already familiar with it. When it's clean and shiny on a sunny day, bright unique colors like Hyper Blue add to the effect.

People see it and first think it's a custom car with custom mods--aero, carbon vent, steamroller wheels. This combination confuses or distracts people while they take it in--the overall effect for these people, me included, is "Wow, that looks like some badass Hot Wheels muscle car come to life" That's what I thought when I saw it, and at least 50% of the reason why I bought it.

Like someone else said the crap visibility of Camaro has hurt sales. I drove a 2012 Mustang GT before my current SS and you can't even compared the visibility of the two. The mustang you could see very easily out of. Very.
