It's so profitable they don't even have to build or sell any! Amirite?

GM needs to make the buyer feel like the are getting something for the premium price and interior compromises.
Oh, I don't know, maybe make the suites of electronic safety aids that buyers want (regardless of their efficacy) standard. Even the LT1 could use blind spot monitoring and some more headroom.

The American muscle car race is shaping up to be a two-model affair this year.

The Ford Mustang is currently in the lead after six months with 31,950 deliveries, but the Dodge Challenger is hot on its tail at 30,148.

The Chevrolet Camaro can barely see their taillights at this point, with just 9,881 finding new owners in 2021.

Almost no one here wants to admit it bc they are enthusiasts and can over look it because of the performance.

What is the one thing Challenger and Mustang have that is clearly better than Camaro. They are more liveable as coupes, and when 60-70% of the cars sold in the segment use the base engines that driveability and liveability matters more than lap times and figure eights and 1/4 mile.

As a performance car, Camaro is vastly superior to the car it replaced(the 40K 1LE is within spitting distance of the previous gen 75K Z/28). It is superior in terms of performance to dollars compared to its rivals, it is a superior performance car and truly a world class performance car. Problem is only 30-40% of the segment goes that route. the majority buys the base engine where that stuff won't sway them.

So that leaves you with a few possibilities.

1. the styling was to safe and thus is stale - possible not likely. Challenger been virtually the same since 2009, Mustang is a safe style as well.
2. It's a bad coupe compared to its rivals - most likely. Mustang and Challenger are better at being a DD.
3 the car buying public just doesn't like the camaro- eh not likely. The segment is shrinking but why Camaro hit the hardest see point 2

the whole segment as hotlap posted is shrinking every year. Camaro hit the hardest compared to its direct rivals though. Only reason I can think of that makes sense is because it's not as good at being a car. Number 3 has been on that for a few years that they made an amazing performance car but a crappy coupe.

I think that’s a convenient excuse. The real root of the problem is GM built the Alpha to go after the 3 series and had to adapt it to the Camaro. That forced them into a small car segment. Then they were too scared to push the styling and the result is a warmed over 5th Gen that’s 10% too small. They ignored every criticism of the previous car and now it’s costing them.

The Alpha platform is insanely good. The problem is no one wants the cars that are built on the Alpha platform.

Mid-size cars are also built on the alpha platform -- CTS & CT5.

"The Chevrolet Camaro can barely see their [Mustang/Challenger] taillights at this point, with just 9,881 finding new owners in 2021. Things have gotten so bad that rumor has it a planned high-performance Z/28 model has been canceled and the entire Camaro lineup may follow it in favor of an electric reboot."

From a national article a read today.

Also Gen 5 had an insane hype through Transformers
Let's also not forget the fact the 5th gen was a comeback after multiple years without any Camaro being sold new so it probably inflated its demand above what a sustained cycle could be. If you bought it to roll in a good looking (to taste of course) car, the 6th gen only look like a slight redesign just like 2013 -->2014 was.

The gen5 ZL1 swayed me back to Camaro. I bought a 13 in the color blue ray. That led me to a nightfall gray 16 2SS A8 ...that led me to a 18 2SS M6 Hot Wheels ...that led me to a 20 1LE 2SS M6 rally green.

I enjoyed them all (images below). This 1LE in rally green is my favorite. The front looks so aggressive!

I contacted ever dealership within 500 miles of me last month and not one had a new 1le for sale or allowed me to pre order. It's like gm is actively trying not to sell this car. I ended up finding a deal on a used 2018.

I agree. Ford has plenty of new and used Mustangs for sale. The dealers in SWFL HATE carrying Mustangs and the Camaro, but the one large Ford dealer 30 miles from me still has NEW 2020 Mustang GTs on their lot at a discounted price! NEW 2020 model year.

While Camaros the last two years VERY hard to find here unless fully loaded.

Hadn't noticed it until seeing your side-by side pictures . . . but is it just me, or the slightly different angles the pictures were taken at?

Or did the 6th gen take the 5th gen chopped-top look even further (like, a bit too far)? The 6th gen windshield and side glass sure look to be a little shorter, either actually or proportion-wise.
