Regional SCCA Time Trial Win!
Hello track junkies!
This past Sunday, the Indy SCCA hosted the first of their 2021 Time Trial series events at Putnam Park Road Course in Indiana. I ran my ZLE in the Unlimited 1 class on Goodyear 3R's (under 200TW tires automatically bumped to Unlimited) and managed to bring home the class win as well as the overall! The format was really fun with 6 sessions on the day, four practice and two competition sessions. In the competition sessions you got an out lap and 3 flyers, with your best lap time from each of those two sessions added together to create the final time. Low time wins. I'm certainly not a seasoned content creator but I did try my hand at iMovie for this one so enjoy but go easy on me!Last edited by hooligan317; 07-04-2021 at 12:46 PM. |

Thanks everyone!
@Krops - I really don't use the PDR much anymore. The Garmin has been really useful for a quick review between sessions, and now that the footage can be exported with the overlay, I don't personally feel the need to mark the start/finish etc. for the PDR. One less pre-flight checklist item haha |

Congrats! Three questions. I thought if you were classed in sport, you could wear the 3R tires as they are an OE tire for the model? And I also thought in unlimited they force cage and fire suppression if I read the rules correctly? I've thought about throwing slicks on and running in unlimited as well, but that scared me off.
Finally - do you wear the inner edge of the tires or outer edge? I have an SS 1LE and I've corded multiple R-comp tires this year on the inner shoulder. I know, it's a softer suspension with the mag ride, but I went to the 3Rs thinking they would wear better as a DOT tire, but they did the same thing (and they're damn fast for a street tire too).

1- You may be correct about the Sport classification on OE tires. I didn't see that when I read through before self-classifying myself. 2- For National events, I'm confident they enforce the required safety level rules for the various run groups. In this case yes that would mean roll-bar / fire suppression / driving suit etc. My experience at the regional level however has been that this is not looked at nearly as close. That said, I do have a 4 point roll bar in the car with a fire extinguisher, seats/harness etc. I don't wear a driving suit though. 3- I run -3.3 camber up front with the 3R's and I'm still wearing the outside edges first. I've not had the inner shoulder situation. I typically swap the front and rears side-to-side at the lunch break at an event. No matter what I do though, they just don't last very long

Thank you! Yes, it's the 67in GTC-300. I've had to add a strip of foam tape between the trunk and the bumper b/c the downforce actually pushes the trunk down to the point where it makes contact and starts to dig into the paint haha
