Sixth Gen - Extreme Hot Weather Considerations

Its 100+ for the next 2 weeks in the PNW (insane I know) and just wondering if anyone down south/Socal have any exp with the sixth gen in very hot temps.

Anyone notice increased starter issues/engine overheating? I have seen a lot of threads with the starter not cranking due to heatsoak and I am wondering if triple digits can aggravate any of this?

Let me know what you guys have experienced.

Car will be fine if fluids are at correct levels and your maintenance has been appropriate.

We had 115f for a week or so and only my camera wigged out. There are accounts of starter issues in the heat though. May have been 2016 only, not sure.

I've driven my 2007 Cobalt when it was 116 degrees outside. With the A/C on full blast, the coolant temps stayed within range to where the secondary radiator fan never came on (at least that's what it seemed like). As long as the coolant level is topped off, the coolant temp should stay under 220 degrees.

100+ is what we consider "normal" down here in Texas. It'll be fine. Make sure your fluids are correct and maybe don't do any track days.

If your car is parked outside for any length of time, the inside temps can get very high. You may want to try to block the sun from from coming through the windows when you can and maybe open a window a bit. Your upholstery will thank you.

Was in Palm Desert,CA last weekend. Drove to Willow Springs and back, then over the mountain back to San Diego. Ran fine all weekend. Saw 128 degrees(yes, one hundred twenty eight!) on the way out of the desert. The 1LE package rocks! A/C kept us cool throughout.

I have done track days over 90 degrees and had no issues. The SS models all have extra cooling, you will be fine.

If you have a 2016-2017 SS (won't hurt to do this for any model year) and are worried about slow cranking on a hot starter then read my thread on this: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=586153

Its hot and getting hotter in SC right now with plenty of high 90 days. My hot starts are just fine since I added the engine to body ground cable. Last summer I would have to avoid hot engine start scenarios as the starter would crank so slow as I feared a "no start" (many others have had failed starts). Other than this tip I believe all other posters have you covered with their suggestions. These cars can handle high heat as far as coolant and oil temps are concerned.
