Wanted to bring this to the top and give my experience.
Car was losing a quart every 600-800 miles. Did an oil consumption for the dealer and they took it in under warranty. They replaced the pcv valve and am happy to report not a drop missing after 1k miles. At 13k miles total, Easy fix and now good as new. Now time to start with the mods...

I feel like the softer you break in the car the more oil it will use. I had a similar experience with the 5.0 coyote. I have owned 4 of them from 2011 to 2017. And none used a drop of oil and all of them were broke in from mile 1 at WOT. They were never babied or waited until xxxx miles to go WOT. I was doing burnouts and heading to the track before the dealer gas was used up. And the coyotes are known for oil consumption and needing a catch can. Same with my last SCAT. No oil usage and it was driven HARD.

Honestly it’s a pain to get a damn accurate reading with these cars. I checked it 2 days ago, sat overnight it was full to The top. Started it yesterday, drove around the block parked it in a slightly different spot, still Flat. Drained catch can and checked oil and it’s halfway up the stick. Started it let it run 5 mins. Checked it 2 hours later and it’s at full mark again.

If you run them hard they burn oil. LS or LT the same. I have had multiples of both and everyone drank oil. You spin them up to redline you burn oil. My .02

Every car I’ve owned burns some oil, if you consistently drive it hard. We’re not talking huge amounts here, but a quart ~3k miles isn’t something that would surprise / concern me.

This is not true... the one place my ZLE never burns oil is at the track.

I will go for a 3 day event at Buttonwillow on warm days, and I'm running it hard with fast laps in the advanced group, and after 3 days + the 230 mile round-trip I have ZERO oil consumption.

I also just had 2 days at Auto Club Speedway, a very fast track with a 160 MPH front straight and a couple of other 130+ MPH stretches, and after 2 days ZERO oil consumption.

My ZLE loves being driven hard on the track, the place where I sometimes see oil consumption is too much cruising at partial throttle and low boost on the freeway, no idea why.

My 2010 LS3 used a lot more oil than my ZL1.

Every engine burns oil. Some more than others. I have driven my ZLE hard since day one. It barely burns any oil. All vehicles we have bought new we’re driven pretty hard and really didn’t use oil. One car my dad purchased that was babied early on used quite a bit of oil.
This is my observation and I’ve been a licensed tech for over 25 years. I never go by the factory break in. That’s just my 2 cents.
Do as you please.

It seems like that is a true statement, in theory every engine HAS to burn some oil right?

But my last 2 daily drivers have been Acura MDXs, 10k miles per year each, and neither one has ever had any noticeable oil consumption between changes--over ~7k+ miles between change until the "change oil" service light came on with a service contract so I didn't change it sooner. The oil level always stays EXACTLY at the top line where it was when it was filled, not a hair under.

I drive these SH-AWD MDXs hard, they're pretty quick and handle like a nice sedan so I frequently wind out the RPMs in the canyons near my house in the LA hills. This speaks to the quality of Honda V6 motors, they seem to be manufactured with more precision than other mfrs, even the much more expensive brands.

I use 0W40 and hit redline say 10 times/day, and it uses one qt. every few weeks.

4 oil changes:
OEM factory oil at 1000mi (break in) - <1/2 qt consumed.
Supertech 5w30 Dexos 4300mi - no consumption
Valvolene 5w30 Dexos 6700mi - no consumption
Mobil1 0w40 ESP Formula 8300mi - no consumption

Blackstone lab reports on the latter 3:
