Most dealers when they order you a car wont write up any pricing or contracts until they have a vin and an invoice. Once they got that, then you should have been talking price before it showed up. I have a verbal with my dealer for a 22 ZL1 at supplier pricing and they agreed. If they pull that back then I walk.

Saw my first "EV Mustang" out on the street the other day. Well actually just parked a couple blocks over from me. Neighbor has one. Have to say, very underwhelming. Not a very nice looking vehicle and no clue why Ford gave it a Mustang nameplate.

I got my deposit back on the 21 Zl1 that I had ordered in large part because they didn't want to sell the car at sticker price, plus my used 1LE has/had gone up a lot in value that they didn't want to pay. I had a deal in hand with agreed upon numbers but the market changed so much after February when we did it that neither party wanted to remain in it and we parted ways.

I got my Challenger in April for Invoice -1%, it was not a "very good deal" but I know the market is up for cars right now and that car would not have made it a few days on the lot. So I jumped.
If you want the Camaro get it.

If you just turned in your lease to them, they didn't make money it. Leases are returned by the dealer to the leasing company/bank. Dealers have the option to purchase it but most of the time the price the bank wants is too steep so it just goes back to the leasing company and then to auction. |

Sorry to hear that OP. Its true in business of all types, if it isnt on paper, it didnt (or wont) happen. Highly recommend having a sales offer in writing and such and refundable deposit down with receipt/etc to ensure you're protected.
Here is what happened to me when I bought my A10 ZL1 in 2019 with 900 miles on it: I had a dealership advertise a ZL1 as certified on Autotrader (pics/website/etc and the listing on Autotrader was for a certified vehicle). As the price was low and it was odd to have a certified ZL1 with 900 miles on it, I printed the advertisement and such, called in and verified the price and drove into the dealership (45 min one way) to check out the car. I was told it was a one owner car, the guy traded it back in after 900 miles to buy "the hammer, the ZR1, the epic vette of dreams" per the Sales Assoc. lol After some discussion, I agreed with the Sales Manager to buy it for 59k as it was in great shape and was all stock from everything I checked. I was told I could drive it after it was paid for as they didnt let anyone drive these cars due to their cost. It seemed too good to be true for the price so I kept the paper he wrote the offer price on when he tried to pick it back up before I went to the Finance Office. When I got to the finance office to finish up, the sales staff pulled the "Certified" sticker off of the windshield and changed the website (NOT JOKING) and asked me if i "wanted the certification for sure because it was pricey" and that it was a 6k price markup to have it, on top of what we agreed. I said its advertised as certified and I have the offer on paper. They said it wasnt advertised and showed me the sticker had been removed and website updated. Again, not joking. Dealerships are not bound to sell a car at the price advertised online since this is not a contract, and autotrader notes that in the fine print too. I told them, sorry, but I printed out the advertisement from Autotrader, have the pictures of it as certified in that advertisement and in person just now with a time/date stamp and the sales price on paper from the sales manager in my hand and this wont fly. They went "oh I guess that was negotiated as certification has not even been submitted to GM yet". They printed the warranty info showing the VIN was not extended for certification etc, but I pushed and insisted they submit it as part of the written offer and per the evidence I had. In the end, they did submit it but it took 30 days to be processed by GM. I got records of the extended warranty and certified paperwork from GM so all good, but extremely scuzzy and deceptive behavior from the dealership. Had I not printed the advertisement, taken pictures in person of the car and been on my game about it, easily could have gotten taken for thousands more if I wanted the car. The paper with the VIN and the total price offer was my saving grace overall, along with the other evidence. Not all dealerships are bad but you really gotta watch your back, they can be breeding grounds for some of the worst people in business. Last edited by FoundNemo; 06-28-2021 at 09:56 AM. |

The car market is crazy right now. I ordered a Camaro 2SS 1LE back in February. I qualify for employee pricing. I did not have to put anything down. If it is ever built and they do not give me employee pricing I will just walk away. Bought a 21 Silverado in May of this year and they gave me employee price. Good luck.

The dealer I had been building a relationship with and had bought 6-8 vehicles from went out of business after being in business since the early '80s.
Usually had COPOs on the floor and Corvettes or Camaros on the lot. Pooof! Sold their inventory to other dealers and laid everyone off. Texted with the owners brother, "my salesman" and he said they couldn't get enough stock to stay in business! So things are rough all over! |

I'm not sure how the dealer "stuck it" to anyone, from the situation described. There were no figures agreed to, especially not on paper, so there was no deal to be broken. Ordering a vehicle, without agreeing to numbers in advance, is a gamble in a standard market (which we are clearly not in). You chose to gamble and broke even; you're lucky the dealer isn't wanting more than MSRP. The Camaro market is about as bad as it gets (in terms of being on the purchasing side). I personally wouldn't purchase the car, but you can't just fault the dealer either.
Turning in a lease early, even with low mileage, is not a guarantee money-maker for the dealership, either. The chance is higher but more details would be needed to determine whether it was a good/bad decision. |

So good luck. The market is starting to come back now, so you might be ok.

Yep, many dealers are NOT willing to do the great deals...particularly on vehicle sitting on their lots. Again, this makes sense...why would they make a little when they know they can make a lot? Also, selling to your or I (at a great deal) yields them with an empty spot on their lot, for possibly months. It is more likely for a dealer to order one at the great pricing, which I did.

Under the present conditions, that seems like a pittance to get upset over if the dealership is not otherwise trying to screw you, especially if there's no contract that says what the sale price was going to be. |
