Sidewall: Inside v. Outside
Just had a set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS06+ installed on my '18 2SS Vert to replace OEM runflats. Definitely a much smoother ride however.
I felt vibration in the wheel at 70+ and figured they didn't balance the fronts correctly. I checked the front sidewalls and noticed the "Inside" marking is on the outside of the tire. The rears are fine and say "Outside". Could this be the source of the vibration and could this cause any other issues with performance/longevity? Regardless, I asked my installed to remount them correctly so the fronts indicate "Outside" as they should.

Love the question. First, I agree you should have them remounted correctly.
Goodyear agrees: https://www.goodyear.com/en-US/learn...-tire-mounting So, could this have caused unwanted vibration? I'll vote "maybe," since a few sites in my research talked about unwanted noise. Noise and vibration often go together. Guess you'll find out when you get the car back! |

Maybe but would have been a traction problem in wet and/or lite snow.

But since they couldn't install the tire correctly, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't balance the tires correctly. I would find another place to correct the mounting of that tire and check the balance on all the wheels. |

In the dry, many tires can be run in either direction, the problem will be when it rains. I suppose it could also create a vibration. Either way, you should definitely have them remounted the correct way.

They are remounting the fronts and rebalancing all tires today. I'll update on the "feel"... You learn something new every day! ;-)

That did the trick! I had them check all four as well... I never would have guessed it could matter that much.
