carbon fiber dash and steering wheel question
Have been without my 2015 Zl1 for about 2 years and am now getting back in!!!
Ordering a new ZL1 1LE and wondering if the carbon fiber dash goes all the way across and if anyone has actual pictures of it and the auto shifter in carbon fiber Also is the steering wheel all suede material or leather. Has anyone changed it to a carbon fiber style. pics also would help here. Thanks Guys ! |

The steering wheel has micro suede on it and the carbon fiber dash insert starts at the right side of the DIC and goes to the end of the dash where the a/c outlet is on the passenger side. Some members here have added a carbon fiber steering wheel but in my opinion the micro suede is much better. The only downside is the suede gets matted and dirty and has to be cleaned and eventually it will become flat and worn. Don’t know about the shifter knob but you can order one on a new ZL1 or ZLE now.

Wildhammer has the custom carbon fiber steering wheels. I got mine in leather, as I do not like suede.

It must have been a real problem, because he called me and said he hoped I didn't want the old wheel back. ![]() Glad I didn't watch. |

Most people have had no difficulty installing them. My bolt just did not move, even with an electric impact gun. |

Removing the airbag is no biggie, I did that when I replaced the paddle switches with their red Corvette counterparts, but I'd let someone else unbolt the steering wheel (and not mess up the clock spring either ).

Your best bet is to find someone with compressed air tools if you don’t want the dealer to remove the steering wheel. My friend and I were able to remove the T50 Torx bolt with his compressed air ratchet.
My ZL1 is a m6. I got the shift knob and steering wheel from Wildhammer Motorsports. I love the Alcantara steering wheel. Also have it in my C8 Corvette. You’ll find the downside to the carbon fiber and leather is a hot to the touch steering when your car sits in the heat of summer. Don’t have that problem with the Alcantara.

I take my ZL1 to lots of car shows and cruise-in. I’m going to guesstimate with a 99.8% certainty that most people don’t even notice the dead peddle except me. As a result, it hasn’t been a high priority to improve its looks.
