Be aware that when valet mode is enabled there is no access to the trunk. Not sure if your tinter will need to get in there.

Guys - now that I've owned the ZL1 a couple of months I have a few additional questions and looking for input from other ZL1 owners:
1. In auto mode the car does not downshift into 2nd gear at 35-40 mph when flooring the accelerator. Yesterday I was experimenting and even at 33 mph, when I floored it, it only downshifted into 3rd. Given 2nd gear goes until almost 60 mph, it should downshift into 2nd below about 43 mph, like my Mustang GT did. I can force it into 2nd at 35 mph by flooring it and then clicking the downshift paddle once, knowing it's only going to automatically drop down into 3rd, but then it puts it in manual mode, and that is a clunky way to do it. 2. Has anyone had an issue with a "sticking" trunk deck after pressing the trunk release button? Recently, about 1/5 of the time that I pop the trunk, it doesn't fully release and just makes a small "click" sound, and I have to reseat the trunk (by pressing it down), then when I pop the trunk again it will pop open properly. 3. Has anyone successfully checked to make sure the supercharger coolant line is bled properly at home? I asked the dealer to do this when I picked up the car, but I don't really trust dealers very much so I wanted to check myself. 4. In manual mode, do you ever notice that the torque converter isn't locked up upon half throttle or more application? For example, 30 mph, manual mode, downshift to 3rd gear, roll into 1/2+ throttle...trans isn't locked up and the revs float. Just wondering if this is normal behavior for a ZL1 or not. Thanks.

I was in Tour for the sub-40 mph attempts (33,35,37), but even in Sport at 40 mph it didn't go into 2nd. I didn't try track, but I shouldn't have to change to track to get a good auto start down into 2nd gear at 40 mph IMO, esp. at sub-40 mph auto starts. 2nd gear at 40 mph is only about 4,100 rpm IIRC, so it should easily go into 2nd from a 40 roll regardless of the mode. And not going into 2nd at 33 mph even in tour mode is silly. That's like 3,500 rpm.

As a follow-up question to my #1 above: Could this have to do with the fact that I babied it (for the most part) during the first 1,100 miles, and now when I try to get on it, the computer thinks I don't really want to give it the beans? I wonder if it learned that less aggressive driving style during break in and if a battery disconnect/reconnect is in order so it can "reset" and relearn my driving style now that I'm willing to push it harder?

Being in track mode impacts shifting.
Also, the PTM modes, from wet to race impact back shifting & torque modulation. I have never done your exact MPH/ gear test, but from what I know of planetary sets what you may be asking it to do, if not a function of prior mentioned PTM modes, may be a mapping juncture where GM said, “Yeah, at that torque request & gear change it puts too much stress on the planetaries, clutches & shafts, so none of that.” Last edited by gtfoxy; 05-17-2021 at 05:32 PM. |
