Nice update. Hopefully you have some nice weather for rest of the drive. Don't forget you can also use the PDR if it's equipped to get some nice driving footage.

Congratulations on the ‘new to you’ ZLE!. You’re fortunate for sure that the car came with Michelin PS4S already mounted. They are so much better a tire for road tripping in a ZLE. They actually do a decent job of dampening the harshness of the suspension on a ZLE as compared to the stock SC3R’s. I am confident you will enjoy this purchase for quite some time. The ZLE is an absolutely amazing car for street driving, when set up properly. Super easy to drive fast, and slow. Swap a few things here and there and get the track specs applied to the alignment and swap back to the stock GY SC3R’s and it transforms into a track beast too. Just an all around fun car to own. And looks bad ass too!

After a 1600+ mile trip, i got back home yesterday at about noon.

2018 ZLE was purchased at Crenwelge Motors in Kerrville, Tx. The guy traded it for a new TRX. car had 6.2k miles when I got it. it has Nav (don't care), pdr, the carbon fiber dash option which i really like. its an m6 car of course.

Pics of the car before i test drove it and it got all disgusting:

E4E8EFA1-D428-45E5-9740-6ACFE7D3D513

It was raining in Tx when i test drove it, car had no traction so i couldn't even get on it at all. The car does have several more weeks of bumper to bumper coverage so I wasn't super stressed about it and it drove and sounded great otherwise.

Overall impressions of the car so far have been awesome. i just want to throw it around corners.

Driving through some of the areas to get home, I think I can see now as to why some think the 1le is too stiff for the street. I think the local road conditions have a huge amount to do with it. The roads around here are pretty good but I think for me even if i lived somewhere with crappy roads, I would still get the 1le as i prefer the overall feel of the car and i do not mind the stiff ride.

i only saw 2 other ZLEs ever in the wild previously besides the one i test drove, but i saw a blue one driving through pheonix. Anyone on here maybe? It was in the afternoon on Saturday.

Had a guy in a crashed c8 try to race me from a dig in Tucson. We were at a light and he just took off out of nowhere. At the next light, he was like, "well you are all modded up, so I thought you wanted to go". I was like i dont and it is stock lol. guy in a brand new c8 doesnt know what a zl1 1le is?! also was going to say, i know these c8s hook from a dig.. but holy hell it looked quick coming out of that light.

I saw two big rigs try to run each other off the road in CA on 5. That was scary. One of them ended up completely in the shoulder doing freeway speeds for a bit. big rig road rage i guess? not sure.

pretty uneventful otherwise. would definitely make the trip again. was definitely manageable the way i split it up.

I drove from 630 - 1AM on friday stopping for gas and food though. drove most of the day on Sat, leaving about 9AM, and i stopped for food and gas a few times and i made it to six flags magic mountain area that night around 10ish right before the grape vine. then about 4.5 hr day on sunday.

i ordered some zl1 rock guards. I wanted the ACS as they seem super nice, but the price difference is pretty insane so i figured i would try these out first. A lot of people seem to have these, say they work and they are like 1/5th or 1/6th of the price.

Glad i am home though, still doesnt feel like this is really what happened this weekend lol

Glad you made it back without any issues. I went from Arlington to Phoenix with an over night stop at some hole in the wall hotel about 15 mins west of Las Cruces. (11 hour drive??) I was hoping to make it home all in the same day but the dealership lost my paperwork that we did over the phone and the finance guy who I was working with had the day off / wasn't answering his phone. Got there at 8 and didn't leave till almost noon.

Congrats on the new ride. What did you think of the overall comfort of the car from that long ride.

I really wanted to try to push through to Las Cruces on my first night, or maybe even Deming. I think if i could have done that, I could have made it home on late Saturday. wanted to do more driving during the day though so i can see what the scenery looks like. Although now i know it all pretty much looks the same until you are out of LA

I would have been so mad if they lost my paperwork. that really sucks. I think including my test drive i was done with the dealership about an hour after i got there.

The car is pretty dang comfortable for what it is, and what it is capable of. It isnt a Cadillac and the purpose of the car needs to be kept in mind as a lot of the comfort stuff would be a compromise to the performance. I want a fun weekend toy so i think this is perfect. would i make the drive again ? Absolutely, although you don't really appreciate the car on the freeway on cruise control. without cruise control i noticed I was creeping into the tripple digits accidentally and not noticing especially when the road was smooth.

The suspension is stiff! There were some areas the roads were pretty bad and like i said earlier, if this is all you drive on, i can see how some people would not want to put up with it. it really doesnt bother me though. el paso was really bad in particular from what i remember.

people complain about the visibility... doesnt bother me at all. I think i am used to it with the other cars i have had.

The seats aren't super luxurious but again, its all give and take. If they were super squishy they wouldn't hold you in very well.

I think the fact that i did 23+ hours in the car in basically 2 days worth of driving, and i feel good about it, shows that it really isnt that bad!

I havent had a chance to play with the car really as far as the modes or anything. Mostly had it in tour. I need to figure out what all the tech stuff does. from all the skimming on this i have done, it seems kinda complicated lol i know for the zle it is all mostly traction control, steering, exhaust, and throttle sensitivity right?

Love the last line you posted there! I remember that feeling very well, even almost a year later after my 1500 miles trip home! I got home at 7pm and drove it around town to show all my friends until 10p! Even after 26hrs I didn't want to stop driving it! I remember waking up the next day and going out in the garage to stare at the thing all filthy dirty and eat my breakfast. lol Congrats on the new ride! Enjoy it and get it to a track ASAP! I just did my first Track event of the year this weekend and my new 18" Hoosier track setup as me loving this thing on a whole new level now!

Thanks!

my two year old was so excited too, kept saying car and point to the garage lol. he wanted to go look at it so bad all day yesterday.

Can't wait to get it out on track. The crappy thing is i am going out of town on Saturday and will be gone for a week and a half going to the in laws in vegas for a week and then disneyland for 3 days. i feel bad because normally these would be super fun awesome trips, but all i want to do or think about is car stuff!!!
