My ex bought a 2016 1SS on my rec. I just leased a 21 LT1. I drove her car mostly. Besides the staggered wheels my car is more well appointed. I optioned 3.0 infotainment RS trim & A10, nothing else.

It’s actually bettter spec’d as is and the price is 8.5k less then the SS

Then the A8 vs A10

As for top speeds and all that. I retired my pro racer mode years ago. I wanted a tidy street car. Thats has the HP it does, but fits 3 surfboards and the same lease cost of well spec’d Prius. Then my employee pricing.

The LT1 on price is uncomprable IMO.

I own a 2016 2SS. Minus the A10 upgrade in your LT1 do you think the LT1 is better versus a 2016 minus A10?

My 2016 2SS only had 16,000 miles on it and everything minus MAG ride and sun roof. I got it for $31,200 last sept when the prices were starting to go up. I picked that over a 2020 left over 1ss around $37,000

I mean, for the price if you can get a base model LT1 for a great buy then I think it's a go, but having the 2SS I really like the cooled seats and leather.

That is how you set launch control. It’s in the manual.

Coolers and brakes.

Since you are not hard accelerating to high speeds like on a track and you are probably only really hitting 50-60 maybe 65 on the public twisties I think the only modification really needed would be putting SS rear wheels on the LT1 since I don't really think that extra cooling is required for said the twisties. Comparing my LT1 to that 1SS (non 1le or mag ride) my LT1 on the twisty road near me I noticed my traction control light coming on coming out of a few of the curves where the 1SS it was not noticed at all.

Let me know your thoughts on that and please correct me if I am wrong on that. Also I am not disputing your post but just adding that in my experiences at least on the twisties it seems a set of rear wheels is all that is needed.
I think I would go with better front and rear, but I do think you're right that rear are the most important. I also agree that the additional cooling isn't really needed on the street, unless maybe your street is located in Death Valley.

I think the whole point of the thread is comparing stock to stock. The LT1, with stock tires and no tune loses at the track because it's limited to 150 mph, it has inferior brakes, it's missing a cooler or so, and it's driving on inferior rubber, which doesn't handle as well, and will almost certainly overheat a lot sooner than the SS tires will.

The SS doesn't need those 'mods' as it comes that way stock.

If your point is that you can buy an LT1 and pay to have it modded to be the same as an SS, I agree, you can. Of course you won't have a warranty anymore at that point and the SS will.

No...my point is at the drag strip youre not hitting 150. Brembos on the front of the lt1 are pretty good. The car doesnt need a tune to run the same times as an SS. And street tires at the track dont do a thing for anybody. Sorry but runing bottons 12s completely stock and 11.8s on a drag pack has me thinking it will be just fine against an SS. Thats a 10 speed. The car isnt built for a road course so judging it to do so isnt accurate.

1/4 mile wont affect the cooling or brakes .... street tires are not good on either car regardless. Set of 285 Niitos on the back solve all issues.

I think Martin is referring to a track like a road course.

That’s always fun. Back in the 5.0L fox body days I had tons of friends who had them. It was interesting to see that some just weren’t fast at all while others were like factory rockets. Funny how cars that don’t differ a lot may be far faster than their brethren’s.

This is so true. The 2 6th gens plus a Hellcat a few fbo Mustangs will have my 5th gen putting in some work on track day haha.

As I mentioned in a previous post, straight line acceleration (drag strip) there's not much difference, none in my opinion. It comes down to the driver. If that's your thing, I think the LT1 is a great car to start with.

On a track, ie oval, road race, etc. Races where you actually have to drive for more than 12 seconds at a time, and make turns, accelerate, decelerate, repeat, the LT1 will not be able to keep up with the SS. If that's your thing then the SS is a better choice.

Obviously just my opinion, your mileage may vary.
