Well I own a 2020 camaro lt1 and I’ve raced 4 ss in total I’ve raced a 18 6spd on a drag and took it, I’ve rolled raced a 18 1le and took it all 3 times, I’ve ran a dig with a 19 ss took it by a little but when we roll raced got him by a car and a half and roll raced another 18 ss same outcome each time, I am not saying an lt1 is better than an ss or a ss is better the whole thread was to see if the lt1 is the same as the ss performance wise

Bone stock. LT1 driver is a lighter guy + his car being at least 76 pounds heavier with the 2SS (mag ride would make it even heavier if it has it)

LT1s generally beat every car out there from a roll (especially with an A10). But I have not seen a single video where an LT1 beats an SS from the dig or drag strip.

That explains why GM has a higher track speed for the LT1s when they tested it from the quarter mile.

GM also has a worse 0 - 60 for the LT1 on paper. But if you launch it right with traction control on, you'll still get SS numbers.

Stop light to stoplight, on a straight away, it's a drivers race when comparing apples to apples. A10 vs A10, the same, M6 vs M6, the same. Top speed, the LTI loses. Take it to the track and run it for a while, the LT1 loses. Put it through the twisties, the LT1 loses.

Yeah, it's stripped down and a perfect car to START a build with, don't try to make it something it isn't. Add some coolers, better tires and rims, tune it to get rid of the speed limiter, then maybe it beats or at least equals the SS in areas other than simply acceleration.

I agree with everything you mentioned in your above post and this is mostly in terms of the twisties on the street comparing a LT1 with a base 1SS with no mag ride or 1LE packages since I had the opportunity a while back to drive that 1SS. Since you are not hard accelerating to high speeds like on a track and you are probably only really hitting 50-60 maybe 65 on the public twisties I think the only modification really needed would be putting SS rear wheels on the LT1 since I don't really think that extra cooling is required for said the twisties. Comparing my LT1 to that 1SS (non 1le or mag ride) my LT1 on the twisty road near me I noticed my traction control light coming on coming out of a few of the curves where the 1SS it was not noticed at all.

Let me know your thoughts on that and please correct me if I am wrong on that. Also I am not disputing your post but just adding that in my experiences at least on the twisties it seems a set of rear wheels is all that is needed.

I’m confused, Camaro 2ss 2019 the engine is a LT1 (I’ve looked at my cars spec sheet) are not all engines in these cars lt1? Or is this a “trim” level (with added features)?
I new to the modding or tweaking of the car, Im still waiting till the warranty is up before I look at engine upgrades.

The argument about which one is faster is pointless. talking one or two tenths of a second difference at most.

Personally I would take an LT1 IF it's dirt cheap. I mean the only thing I'd want on it is A10 because manual sucks driving here in crowded FL.

Gotta watch it because a lot of times the dealers have LT1s which cost as much or even more than a Camaro 1SS!!!!

A dealer near me when they do have the rare Camaro in stock it's an LT1 and it's loaded up with junk. The last ones they had were 43k MSRP sticker due to all the options. More than a 1ss.

If you can get a LT1 for 34- 35k with rebates and dealing then it's a great deal.

Even if you are somehow worried about .10 of a second on a heavier 22SS just add a CAI.

Today I raced an LT1 twice at Lapeer Intl Dragway. First time I creamed him. When I looked at the slip I saw that he had a horrible 60’ time so I went over and showed him how to use launch control. We ran again and he clipped me at the finish.

I’m driving a 2SS convertible 8AT, headers, E85, stock tires. He was driving the LT1, 10AT, 305s on the rear. I was running 12.3s all day. After his driver mod he ran 12.26. Before that he was in the 13s.

1SS, 2SS, and LT1 models all have the 6.2L LT1 engine. You do know that the Powertrain warranty is 60 months, 60,000 miles, right? You will be waiting a while. I finally caved and added headers and flex fuel at 48 months, 28,000 miles.

Set Competitive Mode, try to push the brake pedal through the floor, stomp and hold the accelerator pedal. Revs will level out at 2,000. Light turns green remove foot from brake.

Why does it lose at the track? With a set of tires and an tune it shouldnt be losing to an SS with the same mods.

Thanks, makes sense now. I bought a 6 year warranty as well… before I found the wonderful world of upgrading…. I also have only 9000 miles on her… so all upgrades are going to be ones that don’t screw it up. Also don’t want the wrath of the wife on voiding the warranty that I paid for.
