Amtrak Auto Train

So me and the wife are traveling to Sarasota FL and then to Key West for 10 days for our anniversary and are thinking about using the auto train. I have a 2019 ZLE and was wondering if anyone else has used the auto train and what your experience was. I was measuring ground clearance it looks like 4.5 inches to flexible air dam. I know we could drive it from MD but was thinking of doing something different.

Not sure about the ground clearance. I used it 25 years ago when i moved from Maryland to Florida. I put my Gen3 Iroc on it. It was lowered and seemed to do ok.

I believe if you check their website, it will provide you all the measurements, so you can make an informed decision. You don't drive it on or off the train! Pay the extra $ so that your car will be the first off, otherwise you might be waiting an hour or more at the destination.

I did it says 4.5 inches. I wanted to see if anyone had used them and had any feed back.

Unless things have changed, they don't let you by the train car carriers while loading or unloading.

I will mention my exhaust on the Iroc hung lower than my Zl1 and was ok.

Not a ZL1 but my parents use the train all the time. No issues, at least with care.

I was considering doing exactly this same thing with my 2SS last fall. I watched videos of them loading the cars and such, read about the process, and asked questions like you have here.

In the end, I decided there was no way I was handing the keys to my car over to someone to load and unload, and then potentially have countless people walking past my car (the drivers of all of the other cars passing by after being loaded / before being unloaded).

Add to that the cost of the auto transport combined with the cost of a sleeper car and everything else, and it just makes way more sense to drive it.
