Coolant Fill Level
I topped off my coolant following the Owners Manual instructions. With the car cold in the morning I topped off the upper reservoir to the cold fill line leaving a gap at the top, and filled the bottom tank up to the cold fill line (about half full)
After running the car until warm with pressure cap off, and checking to see if the level dropped at all, everything looked perfect so I closed both caps and went for a drive. After I returned and let the car cool completely, the gap in the top tank is gone and the the level stays up in the neck of the fill cap--when I pop it open it doesn't overflow but it stays there in the neck under the cap. The bottom tank seems to be in the same spot. I know I'm overthinking it, but... should I suck a little coolant out of the top tank so it's right at the cold fill line? Is there some reason it needs that gap at the top? |

No, the top tank is supposed to be filled to the neck. That's perfect.

Thanks, I guess the cold fill line below the top may just be to prevent you from overfilling and spilling some.

That’s what I use in my ZL1 and 2005 Silverado 1500 truck too.

The bottom tank should be at the filled line when cold, and about 3/4" above the filled line when hot. These pics are of a cold setting. |
